follow-up

this is what the storm in my last post did to a house in wethersfield, which is a town 2 towns north of my town in CT. the article says it was a tornado.

. . . TORNADOS IN CONNECTICUT?!?!?!! WHAT THE HECK?!

when i think about home, i tell people it is the ideal place to live. there is ocean, without huge waves. there is really no threat of earthquakes, hurricanes, or tornados. at least, we have had none of those things since I've lived there- except some fall-out from hurricanes down the coast. i am pretty terrified of tornados and earthquakes, so it made me happy to think of moving back to a part of the country where those things are not threats. well, today just threw my theory out the window. a tornado 8 miles from my home. i can't even live fear-free when i'm at home now!!!!

not cool weather gods, not cool at all. i don't know who angered you [maybe it was the lady in the picture- but she looks pretty nice] but strike them down, and let's get on with it please.

Typo.

As I was catching up on the news at home, as I am wont to do, I came across this article.

It talks about the storm that came through and suspended play at the TPC for the GHO, or the Travelers' Championship I guess. Anyway. The sky looks pretty menacing, and first of all, I was disappointed that I came back to Provo just two days early to miss a good storm like this. I mean, after all, it rained the whole time I was home and we didn't even get one good thunderstorm, and we leave and this happens.

But that's besides the point. I was reading the article and came across this sentence, which I put in bold.

Article:
Winds of more than 75 miles and hour and nickel-size hail caused damage in several towns as a storm rolled through the state Friday afternoon.

The storm moved into the state just in time to slow rush hour traffic. Many towns are reporting downed power lines and trees blocking roads. Lightning reportedly struck a houses in Farmington and East Hartford.

As of 5:30 p.m., Farmington police said most roadways in town are blocked with downed trees and power lines. Residents are advised to remain at home or work and not attempt to drive in Farmington until further notice.

A power surge forced the UConn Medical Center to run on generator power, and a couple of windows at the facility were broken. No patients are OK, according to a spokesperson.

East Haven Police confirm that the headquarters itself was hit by lighting..."

... I think someone should change that before panic happens. That's all I'm sayin'.

FYI

1) It has been raining at home, and the forecast calls for rain most of the next seven days.

2) Having extra time means I should really be figuring out what graduate programs I'm interested in, and then what schools to apply to for those graduate programs. I am too young for this!!

Boo.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...

Well, I don't have much to say except that
a) I found a few pictures on my computer from the last few months that I'm realizing haven't been posted on here. I should do that.

b) In 13 hours, I will be boarding a plane in SLC, preparing for a day of travel on my way home with my sister Erin and her two boys.

I imagine from the ground, things might look something like this. Take your pick.

Any way you slice it, I will be in the air while the majority of you will be land-lubbin' it tomorrow, which must mean you're pretty jealous I should think. As you should be.

I am going home! Home.

Just sayin'.

Addendum: now that the trip is only about 5 hours away, I have had some time to sleep a little bit. I had a dream I went in to work today and looked at the clock and saw it was 1:22. And realized I was going to miss my flight home, and started crying; also wondering why Erin did not call to tell me she was going to the airport. Pat (the boss) said they'd try to drive me to the airport, but I knew there was no use when the flight left in 15 minutes. When I called Erin, she said that our flight had been canceled and there was not another one in the near future. We were just supposed to wait a few days and see what happened. So sad! I really hope that doesn't happen!

Addendum 2: For the record, I also hope our plane does not mysteriously vanish over some large body of water like Air France 447. Given there are few large bodies of water between here and CT, I think I'm on the winning side of the odds. Hopefully.

An Update: shopping, dates, and work

alright ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather round for another exciting blog entry!

I was just reading some of my old entries from freshman year, and I must say, they are much more exciting than my most recent entries have probably been. I used to write stories more often instead of random updates of what I've been up to. Of course, I also wrote about every minute detail in my life, but whatever.

So... here's a blog entry because I haven't written one in a while. I went shopping again on the Monday we got off for Memorial Day. Megan and Chad had surprised me on Sunday night and we stayed up late and then on Monday we got up early to go shopping, still on the prowl for jean shorts. I did finally find some, after many many stores. And I also found sandals, which were on sale, which was exciting. Somewhere along the way though, I lost my sunglasses. I'm telling you- I cannot keep my hands on a pair of sunglasses for more than like a month at a time.

That night, we went to Kyle's and drove up the canyon and had a bonfire. Can I just say that bonfires are one of my top two favorite things about summer? I can't think of what the other would be, but I don't want to limit myself in case I come up with something else I love just as much as bonfires. I love a good campfire. Marshmallows and a good roasting stick. Can't beat it. Bah I can't get enough of it. And watching the fire with good company is just fun. So that was fun.

Then we went over to Erin's and watched Seven Pounds because Megan and Chad didn't want to watch a sad movie (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas... which I still want to see...) Anyway. That statement is ironic to you if you've seen Seven Pounds because you know it's not exactly a joyful little piece. But it was good.

I can't remember what happened after that. If this was just last week, then I had a date on Friday night. Actually, even if it was the week before, I had a date then too. Wow, I sound so popular. The first date was a double date with a guy I work with and his wife, and his good friend Drew. We ate chicken parmesan and went bowling and played games and watched a movie and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. So much that I may have asked Drew to come over the next weekend. It may have been the first time I've "asked a boy out". Not sure. Anyway- not being very creative, I made pizza dough and we made pizzas. And then we walked to the duck pond and then we played cards (Drew can play a mean game of Spit- not very common out here...) and watched a movie. It was lots of fun.

So that was last Friday. Saturday I can't remember what happened. I think I went to Chili's with Erin to get free food. Yes. And we went to Jess's bridal shower. It keeps weirding me out when I think there will be another "Dickerson" shortly. When the sisters get married, we lose them. Now we're gaining one back. Weird. Anyway. We also went to a ward YW fundraiser thing at Erin's ward. I bought a loaf of bread for $3 and it was worth every penny. Well, actually, Erin bought a loaf of bread for three dollars. I think I still owe her.

This week I've just been working. Tonight Drew had a going away thing at his apartment, so I went to that. And I'm just realizing that he didn't play the piano. He's apparently (so I hear) very good at the piano and I wanted to hear him play. But anyway. We played beach volleyball for the second time, and while I was much worse tonight, it was still fun. And then played games. I came home around midnight. Oh, who's going away you ask? Drew is leaving for France on Monday. He'll be gone for two months. And I was just getting to know him! How rude! Oh well. Maybe he'll make another appearance on my blog in August when he comes back. Or maybe I'll never see him again. Who knows? (There mom and sisters, now you know who he is.)

So that's what I've been up to lately. That was a really boring factual post, but maybe shortly I will post about my last day at the mental hospital (volunteering that is...) and my experience with bruises and blood drives.

until then,
mollie
