I killed a spider crawling on my bed today.

Tomorrow starts the Dickerson journey to an Idaho Christmas.

the past couple months- in pictures
hello there ladies and gentlemen,
So I rarely get around to uploading my pictures, and thus my entries have been somewhat boring, or I have been tapping into my stock of pictures already loaded onto my computer.
Well, tonight I decided I was going to update my blog, because I took two finals today, and studied for another one for almost 4 hours, and it's not until Thursday, so I'm taking a break! So I pulled out my camera, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a bunch of pictures I forgot about.
So, here we have my latest update of the last couple months- in pictures. Hold onto your seats- this will go fast.
Ah wait. I remember why I never post pictures- because blogger takes about three millennia to upload them.
well, it took forever, so be thankful.
First, I think I posted some of these pictures earlier.
1) NSO with Sanita. How I will miss her next semester, and the three semesters after that. Germany is spoiled. Boo.

2) Impromtu FA bonfire in the canyon, that I sort of organized. Come to think of it, I mostly told the boys I wanted it to happen, and then it did. Hmmm... I wonder what other things I could get them to do...

3) London reunion with all the Londoners- in September
4) Roommate pictures at the Provo Temple- no pictures of the roommates ironically. In September.

5) Halloween with Will the Robot. I had another picture, but I posted this one because he's making such a ridiculous face.

6) Sawyer for Halloween- out of his costume, but still with his white hair, which makes him look like some weird geriatric cherub. Or Jay Leno's mini-me. Nice candid of Erin in the background- bonus!

7) Cookie/candy corn turkeys! My aunt had my first-cousin-once-removed and I do this while she made more important dinner items. (Don't worry- I helped with the bigger things later). She said my grandma (her mom) used to always have the kids make them, so she thought we of course had to. That flock's for you Grandma Hurst!
8) Our Thanksgiving table setting. We also used Grandma's china that my aunt inherited, and were in charge of setting out the silver, that was also my grandma's. And we folded those napkins ourselves, and made the centerpiece. So there.
9) The cute guest bedroom in my aunt's house that was mine for a couple nights. That bed was comfortable!

10) On Thanksgiving night, Megan and Chad picked me up and drove to Rexburg. I went shopping with Megan the next day, and that night we went out to dinner at IHop and then to Chad's brother's show. This is dinner.

11) This is Chad's brother, after the show. (The 28-or-some-such-number Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) which was fun and entertaining.

12) A couple weeks ago, some of my coworkers and I (all of us trained at the same time, so we're kind of a set) got FA's tickets to a Celebration of Christmas and went together. Afterwards, four of us went on to Spark- the new, non-alcoholic bar in Provo. We went as a novelty- and saw lots of people that seem to have made it part of their "We're Rebellious-but-not-too-rebellious Mormons" routine. It was fun. Unfortunately one of the other girls got all the pictures of us with our drinks.
13) After Spark, we decided to have an impromptu sleepover at Abby's apartment. We laughed a lot about I don't remember what. It was amazingly fun. But I was ridiculously tired for church the next day, after which my last post was posted. Interesting fact: we all wear glasses!

14) Table setting at Erin's for Thanksgiving #2. Erin wanted left-overs, and I like food, so it was a good combination. We made all the regular foods, and set the table all nice, and invited Kyle and his girlfriend, and ate like we hadn't eaten since... Thanksgiving!

15) My front door. I ran outside for something on Saturday and when I came back up the stairs, realized I had locked myself out. (Can you see where this is going?) So I took matters into my own hands, straddled that railing (which is on the second story- on the other side, it's a drop to the first story), slid open the window, and carefully maneuvered myself into my window (pushing the blinds and a lamp out of the way) to get back in.

16) The cake I made for Katie's birthday. Erin has this recipe for cupcakes, and I thought it was festive, so I made it into a cake. It worked out quite well in my opinion. It's chocolate, with chocolate pieces in it, then cool whip frosting, with baker's chocolate and crushed candy cane on it. You'll have to ask Katie to verify its goodness- I might be biased. Happy Birthday Katie!

17) Katie cutting her cake, after I sang to her. Yes, solo-ly.

18) My coworkers again- we went out to breakfast at Kneaders on reading day #2. It is the last time we'll all be together for a while, what with Sanita leaving, and three of us (not me- before you ask) have the potential to get married within the next few months. (L - R = Heather, Karen, Sanita, Me, Lakin, Danielle. not pictured = Mindy, Tamanna, Toni, Abby) We used to celebrate everyones' birthdays individually, but as we've gotten poorer, older, and busier, we do something like this every once in a while and call it good.
And there you have it- my life in pictures.
Megan wants me to post a picture of the Christmas tree she gave me, which is the only Christmas cheer in my apartment, so I might do that soon. As for pictures of when Erin, Megan, and I went to the UConn game and then to Spark, you'll have to ask Erin for those! And for pictures of my Jack-o-lantern!
In other news (like this post wasn't long enough), the semester is almost over- I have two more finals to take.
-Last week, I dropped my Signature Card (ID card) behind a computer/printer station in the JSB while trying to release a print job. (Don't ask how- I don't even know) I had to stick the top half of my body in a 6" gap to reach as far as I could to grab the card with my fingertips. On the way back out, my ear got stuck on the printer, but the printer doesn't move, and there were people watching, so I just pulled. My ear has not been the same since. Apparently it looks fine- but man it hurts. And that was... a week ago!
-I have learned that many attractive, hopefully brainy, hopefully single men do their homework in the Crabtree building- the Technology Building. Of course. Don't worry- I will not stalk them.
-One of my roommates is moving out, and I met the girl moving in. She's Asian. If you know anything about my living situation, you'll think that's humorous.
-I came up with a joke the other day, after having a Facebook message conversation with Megan about people misspelling the world "angel" for "angle". It goes like this- Q: What did the big angle say to the little angle? A: You're a cutie! (hah hah, get it!!??)
-My students are now officially off "on their own"- the semester is over, and my job as a peer-mentor-with-students is over until next Fall. Sad. But I get to see them all again for follow-up in January, so not quite over yet.
-Also, I heard another Christmas song change-of-lyrics today. Just because you don't like turkey, Jo Dee Messina, doesn't mean you can just change it to "chocolate and pumpkin pie". Besides, those two things don't even go together.
-Today I was in the bathroom and heard someone come in, go into a stall, and then take out their phone (apparently) and start a phone call. Ok- that's not exactly my idea of "down time"...This is extreme multi-tasking. And... I'm sorry but if you're so busy that the only time you have to make a quick call is while you're doin' your business, you're TOO BUSY! A coworker of mine said she always worries about flushing, because that puts the phone call person in an awkward position- I mean, what if the person they're talking to hears the flush? Here's what I say- FLUSH AWAY! Maybe twice or three times, just for good measure. And at least walk away knowing you're not encouraging the toilet talker to perpetuate their habit. And if you're one of these people, umm... sorry. I guess. But not really. Because if you were so busy that that was the only time you had to call me, I'd rather you just didn't call at all. What kind of self-esteem booster is that? Really. It's better for everyone if toilet talking just doesn't happen. Thank you. Although, if it didn't happen, I wouldn't be able to blog about it...
Well that's all folks. I can't think of too much else to say. If you read my blog, there are two things I want you to learn: my life is obviously not very exciting or extraordinary- except for two fabulous months that I spent in London! And second, God does not love you unless you're talented, beautiful, and intellectual.
Merry December 16th!

body language
so, this may be sacrilegious, but
today in Relief Society we had our lesson about the law of chastity, given by the bishop.
the girl saying the prayer asked that the "Spirit might touch us in this meeting in a way that is meaningful to us"
it could have to do with the fact that I only got 3 ish hours of sleep last night, but I thought this was ridiculously humorous.
no one else seemed to think so.
real entry later,

A Few Random Things
hello there!
I hope you're all enjoying my new holiday lay-out. I like it :)
-----------------
In Marriage and Family class, we are assigned talks to read out of the manual every night, then he gives us a worksheet of questions, and we memorize the answers for a quiz on (a chosen few of) the same questions
the next morning. We have a quiz every day. (These details will soon matter, I promise.) So the other day, I went into class and our reading had been about self-esteem. You can guess what a church talk about self-esteem will entail. At least, I thought most people could. With the exception of the girl sitting next to me, who, in response to the question "What did President Benson say were the three keys to self-esteem?" wrote "Talent, beauty, intellect."
Ok, so I may have been looking at her paper. And when I told this story later, someone said "You were cheating?" I said "No. Not really. She was sitting about 6" from me, and I knew the answer. It wasn't cheating." So I'm saying it wasn't cheating, just eavesdropping. With my eyes.
Anyway- the whole thing just made me laugh. Here was this girl (and I'm about to get hated on for stereotyping probably) with dyed hair, dark tan skin, lots of make-up, skinny jeans, and Ugg boots sitting next to me, who, not having taken the 2 minutes to read the actual article, came up with "talent, beauty, intellect" as the three keys to self-esteem. Seriously? You're in a church class. You're quoting a prophet. You really think that's what he said as the keys to self-esteem?!
For your information, the answer was: 1) love God, 2) fear God's judgment, and 3) seek out, know, and do His will.
--------------------
A co-worker/friend of mine got her mission call tonight. That's the first mission call opening I've gone to since Vinny Grosso's in CT. She's going to Germany. She was born there and lived there for a few years of her young life, so she's pretty excited to go back. I'm excited for her. This just means work will be way less exciting next fall without her.
-------------------
I went to a Vocal Point concert tonight. Vocal Point is a male a capella group on campus. Their tickets always sell-out really fast, so this year Freshman Academy had some that were going to be wasted, so I grabbed two for free and went. It was surprisingly good, and interactive, and funny. I may have even developed a completely irrational, absolutely middle-school-ish crush on one of the singers. Embarrassing.
------------------
Yesterday I came home and there was one of those UPS InfoNotice sticky notes on my door. The UPS man/lady/worker-person left it for me. They wrote my name on it, and the date, and that was it. There is a column that says: "The package was not left because:" Nope, nothing marked. Then there's another section that says "We will try again on:" Nothing. So I read the back and it said to ONLY sign the notice if the reason for the package not being left was that it required a signature. Otherwise, do NOT sign it, and leave an address where the package can be delivered instead. Well, because the UPS worker was so incredibly vague on their little notice (completely negating the purpose of the notice) I signed the paper, and left an address, and my own sticky note asking them kindly to leave it the next time they tried to deliver it.
They did, and I got new pajamas today :) (They were on sale for $9 and I'm pretty excited about it.)
-----------------
I'm going to Idaho for Thanksgiving. With my Aunt's grand-daughter. It's complicated.
-----------------
I am making a pecan pie next week!
-----------------
The UConn Women's Basketball team is coming to Provo on Tuesday to play BYU. Megan is going to come down and we're totally going.
-----------------
School will be out exactly one month from today.
-----------------
I got invited to a focus group in the library about Advanced Writing vs. First-Year Writing and had to talk about high school and college research. And then got $10 for it :)
And, I don't know if it has to do with growing up on the East Coast, but, I was the only one out of a room of 8 that had written an actual Research Paper in high school- that required sources (including primary source documents), and more than 5 pages of text. That was weird.
-----------------
Alright, well those are all the random details of my life at this point.
I hope you all are doing well.
And if I don't write again before then (which I probably will) Happy Thanksgiving!!

iPod shuffle
So I just did one of those survey things where you push "shuffle" on your music player (aka iPod) and then answer the questions with the title of the song- does that make sense?
Well, the person who made the survey asked the question "How will you feel on your wedding day?" twice and the first time I got "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked, and the second time I got "Leave Me Alone" by The Corrs.
I'll try not to take that as a bad omen :P
I just thought it was funny, so thought I'd share.
The end.

even though it's november...
bonjour ladies and gentlemen!
I am writing to you as one of the newest members of the BYU chapter of PsiChi (the Psychology Honor Society). I know, pretty exciting! The induction ceremony was tonight. They had dinner (aka a table with food) and then gave a presentation about the organization and our responsibilities as members, and then inducted us and gave us certificates, very similar to the one pictured here, which I doctored for you, so you could get the full effect :) I also got a lapel pin and a "lifetime membership card". That brings my honor society memberships up to 3: National Honor Society, Tri-M Honor Society, and now PsiChi. I don't know what I'm going to do with all the lapel pins...
The whole thing was about as classy as the Tri-M induction... so you can imagine. Except without the audience, since people at college don't really have family to come watch.

I also took a test on Tuesday and got a 98! That's up from 96 on the last one for this class. Tomorrow I go in for English to read my mid-term paper to my professor and get him to grade it. I'm pretty much scared out of my skin. I might pee on the floor or something. Which isn't even very funny because it has been known to happen... ask my siblings about Sam's Club.
In other news, I may have turned my radio to the permanent Christmas music station last week.
And I may have created a Holiday music radio station on Pandora, which I'm listening to now.
I remember living at home, and mom used to say that Christmas decorations shouldn't come up before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving just gets ignored as Christmas takes center stage starting right after Halloween. I used to agree with her. The season isn't special if you celebrate it for 3 months of the year.
But once I came to college, and over the years, I have found myself celebrating Christmas earlier and earlier. My freshman year, we started Christmas after Thanksgiving- I was the only one staying at the apartment over the break, so I decorated it all Christmas-like for my roommates to come home to. Last year a Christmas tree ended up in our living room sometime right after Thanksgiving- not yet December. And this year, well, as I've already confessed, I've started the christmas music. I can't help myself. I think it's because when I lived at home, I could afford to wait for Christmas to come. There were decorations and everything, and Christmas "started" when all the decorations were up and the house was cheerily Christmas-ed out with garland and marching bands and little houses and nativity sets, complete with kid art on the walls. Megan and I were the last ones living at home, so we got to do it longer than the other siblings. We cut down the tree and liked to watch it being set up, but avoided having to be the "straightness supervisor"- "a little to the left. no, a little back to the right. more. more. too far." ... while Dad tried to maneuver it with pine needles sticking into him everywhere and patience waned.

Now that I don't live at home, I don't get to see the house decorated. I don't get to be a part of the build-up of Christmas. Christmas doesn't start until Christmas break, which this year is sometime around the 20th of December. So, Christmas to me starts later than it ever had while living at home. So because I can't take out the decorations, and I can't pick out the tree, and I can't carry box after box down from the attic, I don't get to have all the physical Christmas around, so I have to find my own way of bringing Christmas to my life: radio stations. And who cares if I start in November?? And who cares if I post pictures of my house all dressed up for Christmas because it makes me happy?
So as I listen to my Christmas music, I have noticed one artist that sang The Christmas Song- saying "tiny tots with their eyes all aglow will" ... find it hard to sleep tonight? NO! it said something else that I can't remember now. This story would be cooler if I could remember the wrong lyric. But anyway- it was disconcerting- someone recorded the song singing the wrong words?! Hmmm. One guy just sang "where the treetops glisten and the kiddies listen"... it took me a full second or two to realize he was not talking about felines.
Anyway- so, I've had a true Christmas change of heart- please, put up your Christmas tree two days after Thanksgiving. Let the stores get their Christmas displays out weeks before Thanksgiving. I don't mind. I'll turn on my Christmas music and walk around with "it's beginning to look a lot like christmas" in my head for weeks, happily. Because all these signs of Christmas mean school is almost over. It means snow and Coca-Cola polar bear commercials, and mittens, and christmas lights on houses. But most of all, it means I'm going home soon.
... at least it usually does. This year I'm not going home for Christmas. This was how Christmas in Idaho in a cabin was pitched to me:
mom: "What do you think about Christmas?"
me: "What do you mean?"
mom: "What do you think about not having Christmas at home?"
me: "... but I want to go home. The house is always decorated and we've never had Christmas away from home."
mom: "Well, you could have Christmas at home with your three brothers, which would be really boring"
me: silence
mom: "Or you could have Christmas in Idaho and have both your sisters there and all your siblings and family together."
me: silence
mom: "Don't you want the family to be together?"
me: "yes, mom."
So Christmas in Idaho it is. I'm sure my opinion was not the only one sought on the subject, but that was how it was pitched to me. So I don't get to go home this year. I will miss getting to see the people I only get to see when I'm home. I don't get to leave Provo after finals, and do the whole airport thing. I don't get to see all the christmas lights out the plane window in all the little towns where the Whos lay a-snooze. The house won't be decorated. But the family will be together I suppose. And, as I've learned after 19 years of hearing How The Grinch Stole Christmas read on Christmas Eve, you can't stop Christmas from coming (it CAME!). It'll come "without ribbons, without tags! Without packages, boxes, or bags" and all that. And as the Grinch learns, so I have learned "Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more".
Of course, if I stay on track with the Grinch there, the next step is to do some whizzing through the air... so I better go.
And I will listen to my Christmas music and wait for Christmas to come. And I'll just skip "There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas".
until again,
mollie
p.s.- this was supposed to be a short entry... sorry.
p.p.s.- did you know that the Grinch is not green in the book? Movie people colored him green in the 1966 cartoon and he's been green ever since...
Orange, Red, and Blue
Well hello there!
I feel the need to update, so here we go. Last Friday was Halloween- I wore an orange shirt- which was the extent of my dressing up. My stake had a dance, but dances don't generally strike my fancy, so I went to Erin's instead. I carved my pumpkin and handed out candy, and ate all sorts of junk.
On Saturday I helped Erin keep Sawyer's attention as she tried to take his picture on the river trail. Then I went over to Katie's and we did as we usually do- talked and ate. I went to church on Sunday and ate dinner at Erin's. On Monday, I gave blood!
The Red Cross was doing a blood drive for our stake, and I decided I finally should. I hadn't given blood since high school and my only reasons for not doing so were because I was afraid and I never drink enough water and didn't want to pass out. So I spent my weekend drinking water. Which also meant I spent my weekend taking frequent trips to the bathroom. But, I gave blood on Monday! I have officially saved 1-3 lives. Or at least contributed to their saving. :) I was pretty proud of myself.
I think the nurse lady knew I was scared (It was rather obvious- I said "I'm scared!" and turned my head away from my donating arm the whole time) because she kept trying to reassure me and tell me how much longer I had left. It took me 7.5 minutes to donate. It took the three people around me about 5 and a 1/2. But oh well. I did it, and that's what counts :)
My ex-roommate Katie went with me, and she was supposed to hold my hand. But then she decided she wanted to donate too (for the first time) so she did. Which meant I had no one to hold my hand :( But I survived.
I'm just telling you all this because it was really a momentous occasion for me. I just wanted that brunette man who stands around watching other people do nasty things tell me "Fear (of needles and blood) is not a factor for you."
And hey, did you know that only about 38% of Americans are eligible to donate blood? Isn't that weird?
Moving on.
Tuesday, Election Day. Let me just say I am so glad Election Day is over! I was getting really tired of the blatant campaigning of friends and random acquaintances. Oh, and most of that was ineffective anyway because I mailed my absentee ballot two weeks ago. (I voted in my first presidential election!)
I went to Erin's because she was having a bye-bye Bush party, during which we ate food and watched CNN report. My brother Mike works for Google and got asked to go to Chicago to do data analysis for the Obama campaign, which he did. He told us at about 8 pm that "We won 2 hours ago", which would have meant at 6 pm here, it was over. CNN didn't announce a winner until about 9-9:30 ish. For those few hours when we had info. the rest of the country was waiting for, we felt pretty darn cool. We didn't have to worry about the CNN reporters saying they weren't sure which way it would go.
So, Obama won! I know I live in Utah, so... Obama supporters seem to be few and far between, but actually the results showed Utah was only 60% McCain- which surprised me. But I still went to work on Wednesday with no one to celebrate with.
True story:
me: "Hey guys- my brother worked for the Obama campaign last night, so he told us he knew like 4 hours before the news reported it, that Obama won. Isn't that cool??"
room of 10 people: silence
girl sitting next to me: "So, your brother voted for Obama?"
Oooooooook.
I listened to people all day talk about how they don't want our country to be socialist, how they're moving to Canada, and how the End of the World must be just around the corner because the country is sure "going to hell in a hand basket"- of course people say "heck" and not "hell" but that's besides the point. Seriously though? Seriously?!
Please, move to Canada. Then I won't have to hear your whining anymore- you're annoying me. I just think it's obnoxious. Because, you're NOT actually going to move to Canada. Because... regardless of who won, Obama IS the President Elect. And for all the talk about how Obama isn't American and doesn't support "Old Glory", if McCain supporters can't recognize their defeat and realize they should support ANYone who has the responsibility to run our country and solve the mess we're in, I just want to ask them, "Who's being un-American now?"
Urgh. I'm just saying. If McCain won, I would not be going around talking about how the world is ending. Would I be disappointed? Yes. But I would realize nothing will change it and I might as well deal with it. I would not be complaining about moving to Canada. And not only that but... Obama won by A LOT. I'm not saying the popular thing is always right, but... doesn't your opponent winning by something akin to a "landslide" make you (McCain supporters) feel a little sheepish about complaining as much as (some of you) are? I'm just saying, please stop complaining because it's not going to change anything, and it's (most likely) annoying the people around you. You're probably the same people that boo-ed McCain in his concession speech when he mentioned Obama. Oh so classy.
Ok. So politics annoy me. No. They don't. Whiny defeated (generally McCain) supporters annoy me. Sorry- had to get that out there. Because it's my blog and I can- and I have to bite my tongue in BYU public. I am not a confrontational person, so I want to get it all out on here, so I can continue not arguing with these types of people in real life. :P It'll just make me feel better if I know someone (even just my mom and siblings) know my real opinion on the matter. And I haven't written a ranting post in a while, so I think I've earned this one :)
I'm just saying- it's not that I hate McCain supporters or anything- I don't. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and Hallelujah that people exercise their right to take part in the democratic process. I'm glad people are interested in their government. All I'm saying is "You lost. So support the new President, or at least stop complaining. And maybe you should hold your tongue about moving to other countries or socialist governments until you see what happens in the next four years." Ok really. Rant over. It's just funny because if I was in Connecticut right now, pretty much everyone would be cheering about Obama's win.
Anyway. I did think it was funny though, that while I was driving home on Tuesday night, I was listening to the radio DJ who was talking about how sad it must be to live in Alaska or Hawaii- your polls haven't even closed and the election is over. Talk about your vote not "counting". I thought, "That IS sad!" and then I laughed about it for a little while. Poor Alaskans and Hawaiians. Why go to the polls when the news stations are already reporting the winner?
So then after Election Day, not too much has been happening. On Wednesday morning I woke up to snow covering the ground and still falling. It has all melted since then.
Last night I curled up in my warm bed to read with a cup of hot cocoa. I think I burned every taste bud off my tongue because I was too impatient to wait for it to cool off, and kept thinking "surely, after these past 3 seconds have passed, it's cooled enough to drink". Nope.
I have a test I need to take soon- I'm thinking Monday though. And then another test next Thursday. It looks like the second round of mid-terms has officially started.
I only have one class on Fridays, but it got canceled today for "medical reasons [my professor] will explain on monday". I also had my consultation to read my paper to him and finally get a grade on the mid-term, but he had to cancel that too. Looks like I have to wait 7 more days.
I wouldn't have to go to school at all today, except I have a meeting with my students' professors at 2 pm. Blah.
Anyway I'm gonna go get dressed and do some reading.
Until again, dear readers,

he/she/it
i remember when our fifth grade teacher used that term we would all giggle because it sounded like she said a bad word...
anyway.
i know it's bad, but i think it's kind of amusing that my roommates use the s-word when something bad happens.
they seem to know the word well enough to know when to use it, but aren't really clear on the fact that it's a swear-word.
the first time i heard it, it was yelled from the room next door after a loud crashing noise.
hah.
-mollie
p.s.-
(granted i've only heard it 3 times so far... so maybe they do know it's a swear word and use it anyway? )

what?
So here I am on my Friday off (b/c my one Friday class was canceled and I can't work anymore because I met my hour restriction for the week...) looking up information about the names on my absentee ballot so that I can vote, when I came across this:
____________________________________________________________________
Vote to pass a bill that bans the use of trans fat in restaurants.
An act concerning restoration of a swimming pool in Manchester's landmark historic district.
-Forbids restaurants to serve any dish containing margarine, vegetable shortening, or hydrogenated vegetable oil in amounts exceeding 0.5 grams per serving (Sec. 2).

Notice the part in bold.
Ok, so I guess I don't know enough about politics or law because this does not make sense to me.

Weekend Update: Lion King and Laundromats
Hello there readers!

I haven't written in a while, and I decided that I better give a little update, especially because I have a paper that I should be writing that I'm avoiding. (How do you write a paper to talk about 5 different books and how they compare and contrast in 1,000 words, which is like 1.5 pages single-spaced?? That's a question for another entry...)
I don't have too long because ward prayer (affectionately known as "ward stare" in Erin's world) is at 9 pm. But I just thought my weekend was worth documenting.
This week, lucky me, my weekend started on Thursday night. My roommate Nichole from freshman year was down to see her cousin Katie, who was also my roommate freshman year (and sophomore year). So after I got out of class at 6:30 and done with an RS meeting at 8 pm, I met them and we went out and ate dessert at Chili's, which was really good. Thursday was a stressful day to me, so treating myself with cake was definitely a good idea.
Why was Thursday a stressful day? I took a test in my hardest class (Personality) that was all essay, and I felt like I didn't have time to adequately prepare because for the week previous to this test I have barely had time to eat and brush my teeth after doing everything I needed to do. It was soooo busy. So I was stressing about this test.
I took the test and feel pretty confident, which is a miracle. Then I had to go right to a meeting with the PsiChi Presidency. I got accepted to the Psychology National Honor Society (PsiChi) and I also applied and got a position as Service/Social Coordinator. So I had to meet with the presidency to see what I was supposed to be doing, and it turns out I'm basically the "Activities Committee Chair" in church terms. Then I had to go right to a meeting with my English class for a presentation we're doing tomorrow. Seriously. By 6:30 pm I only had time to eat a corn and bean burrito that I microwaved in the office and brought from home. So sad.
So the food was welcome.
It was great to see Nichole and Katie. They're doing well. Nichole is dating a guy who she dated in high school and who is going to BYU-I. She took Katie with her to go see him on Friday. On Friday I had class and then Erin said they were going to the pumpkin patch, so I hurried over there and we went to this place in Santaquin that has a hayride out to a pumpkin patch and a little store and stuff. It's cute. I didn't get any pictures though because my camera was dead. I managed to snap one, and as you can see, it's of me and Will and not a very great one. Anyway- the whole thing was just so fall-ee and I love fall, so you can imagine I enjoyed it. I bought a humongous bag of kettle corn that I have been nibbling at all weekend. Fall is a wonderful season. Pumpkins, apples, cider, kettle corn, and pretty fall leaves. Mmmmmmmmmm.
On Saturday, I got up at 9 and started preparing things for a party one of the professors was having for my students. I was the organizer, so I had to get everything set. The party was at 2 pm. Only half of the students who signed up actually came, which was disappointing to both the professor and me, but I will try not to take it personally. It's just that the professor and his wife MADE dinner for the students, and they still didn't come?!
Anyway. So I planned activities for that and I think everyone had fun- I don't know. I hope so anyway! Then I was finishing cleaning up and everything until 7 pm, when I met Tamanna (a coworker) at the Wilk. to go to Divine Comedy because she got me a ticket! Tamanna and I have been trying to get together for like two months to watch The Lion King because one day we were talking about how much we liked it. So, the theme for the Divine Comedy show was The Lion King, which was pretty funny. They had Simba as the BYUSA VP and Mufasa was the President. And Simba "kills" Mufasa who is trying to save him from the stampede of students during passing time. He then runs away to UVU for a little while.
Ok, so it might sound lame, but I assure you, it was funny. After that, we went back to Tamanna's apartment. She lives in Glenwood and I walked into her apartment and had the weirdest deja vu- it was really creepy. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.
Sanita and Mindy (other coworkers) came and Sanita brought her friend Beth. We just hung around talking about a variety of things. As our conversation continued, I realized that we had somehow gotten ourselves talking about work. And I realized that I have become someone who a) hangs out with coworkers and b) talks about work all the time! That was a really really weird realization.
At midnight, Sanita and I had to go out and move our cars so we wouldn't get booted by Glenwood. So we moved to the Blackjack Pizza parking lot, but still weren't sure if it's an enforced lot. There was a 24 hour laundromat there, so we ended up going in to talk for a little while because it was warm, there was no one there, and we could keep an eye on our cars. As we were about to leave, the Blackjack Pizza employees were leaving and asked us if we wanted a ham and pineapple pizza they were about to throw away. Of course we claimed it. So we then returned to the laundromat (now at about 12:30 am) and ate pizza and laughed for ridiculously long amounts of time.
It was definitely an adventure and one of my favorite nights out with those girls :) Free pizza, free entertainment, what more could you ask for?!
While out, I got a text message from Nichole- she's officially engaged to the guy she went to BYU-I to see. They're getting married in December! Can you believe it?! Well, you probably can. But I can't. I can't believe we're growing up! But I'm excited for her! The first of my freshman year roommates is getting married! Congratulations Nichole and Scott!
(p.s.- while we were freshmen, we made a list of who would get married when, and Nichole was first on the list. And now she's getting married! We were right! Of course... I was second. Hmmm...)
I got home late and slept as much as I could before having to be at church this morning at 8:30 am. In Sacrament Meeting, we had a student speaker and a stake speaker. The student speaker talked about The Lion King for most of his talk (I don't remember how he got off on it from his original topic... but The Lion King actually has some pretty good religious stuff in it...). I guess it was a Lion King weekend for me!!!
After the Lion King speech, the stake speaker spoke about Proposition 8 for about 30 minutes and I was bored.
Now I am home after ward prayer. Usually Sundays are my go-to-Erin's days, but I couldn't today because I have an English paper due tomorrow. (The 1,000 word paper I previous mentioned.) I now have all my ideas down and just have to write the paper- except that I still have no idea how to extensively talk about 5 books in 1.5 pages. Oy. It's due by 7 pm tomorrow though, so I can handle it :)
Oh, and I logged on to facebook today and saw that Hilary (one of the girls who was in pretty much all of my London pictures) is engaged too! Congratulations Hilary and Chad!
I guess this is that time of year...
That's all from me. I'll put in some pictures. Enjoy!
until again,
mollie
p.s.- in the first picture, it's me, Tamanna, Beth, and Mindy L -> R. In the last picture, it's Tamanna, Mindy, Beth, Sanita L ->R.

Seriously. boredom strikes again
Hello there!
I have recently come to the conclusion that my blog posts have become significantly less exciting since I left London. I suppose that's to be expected, but it is still sad. In an effort to remedy that, I thought I'd offer some more random tidbits... reminding me something of this entry. Though I am surprised to say that some of the things I originally listed are no longer "things".
-I push the "walk" button three times and I always take three paper towels to dry my hands in the bathroom. Yes, I know pushing the button more times doesn't make it change faster. But I bet you do things like this too- maybe you lock your car twice? Or sneeze three times in a row? (Ok, so you admittedly might not have power over the last one...)
-I just heard someone sneeze and I'm not entirely convinced they weren't in my room. That's the first time I've noticed the thinness of the walls in my apartment, and it was disconcerting!
-I called my parents today, who were at a restaurant for dinner in Arkansas (on their way to UT). My mom hung up on me out of excitement for chicken fried steak. Ouch. (I guess I'm chopped liver?!) ... (ok, bad pun. sorry...) Chicken fried steak before your own daughter, mother? Seriously... (Granted, I was only calling her because I was walking home and bored- I had nothing important to say...)
-The construction that involves jack-hammering outside my window at 7 am needs to be over.
-I'm pretty sure the people who said "eat soup when you aren't feeling well" did not mean clam chowder. I think eating clam chowder when you're not feeling well may just bring the word "sick" to whole new levels of meaning.
-I just realized I have a one-page paper to write. I best be going...

Short Update
Hello!
I just noticed that my mom posted an update on her blog (as Erin commented, I didn't know she knew how to do that...) and they officially own the house as of earlier this month. My childhood home is officially paid off. Awww home. It's sad I won't be seeing it all decked out for Christmas this year.
In other news, I will make this short.
Today I drove around for 10 minutes trying to find the post office so I could buy 10 1 cent stamps. It doesn't take a math whiz to know economics weren't on my side. Lame.
I finally got up the courage to eat again (after my previous entry with self-destructing stomach...) and spent the evening hoping my stomach didn't get mad, which it didn't. (For the record, I never actually threw up.)
It was a beautiful day today.
The Relief Society Pres. I work with got back from her weekend vacation- Hallelujah!!
I have no idea what to wear tomorrow.
I am out of milk. And bread. And somehow I spent $75 on groceries a week ago...
I've got dates with two cute boys this weekend!
(Erin has been sending me [not so] subliminal messages to babysit her children)
I can't think of anything else to say.

Weekend Update-ish
Hello there ladies and gents.
Weekend updates are as follows:
-I had my last FA interview yesterday (I try to get to know all my students at the beginning of school...) All 40 of them came! They are my new favorite people.
-My roommates had a Ramen noodle party today. My neighbors said it was intense (I was at Erin's.)
-I had to conduct Relief Society today for the first time, and felt like an idiot doing so. Oh well.
-I heard Erin barfed last night.
-I made chicken parmesan (I hate that word! How do you spell it?!?) for lunch.
-I went over to Erin's for a little while.
-I had Stake Leadership Training- my calling is 2nd counselor in the RS. ... wasn't my idea.
-The kitchen sink has backed up on both sides and our neighbors have the same problem. GAG.
-Whether or not in sympathy for Erin's plight I'm not sure, but my stomach is not happy with me right now.
I am going to bed.
Good night all! Hopefully you are feeling more healthy than I am!

Fall(ing), Balancing Eggs
Hey there ladies and gents!
Happy first day of Fall!!!!
It was definitely fall weather today- cold, rainy-ish, windy-ish.
And as is Dickerson tradition (since 2001 anyway...) I balanced eggs!
Unfortunately, my over-achieving twin beat me...
...and my skeptic-appeasing sister already posted the articles about the mythical nature of this phenomenon...
Believe what you want. But as for me, the bell (uhh... egg?) still rings.
-mollie
p.s.- next year I think we should take time to decorate the eggs so they look like little people so that megan's parade can be much cooler/creepy-ish.

If I Had a Dollar for Every Page...
Hello there!
I don't have much to say right now, except that living off of $40 (from selling a book to someone on campus) for two weeks has been an adventure and I am excited to be getting my new debit card.
This week has been busy, and it's only tuesday night! I am hoping to get to bed at a reasonable hour, so I will try to make this short.
First of all, I have really been missing London lately. It's so sad to look at my pictures and wish I was still there. I want to go back! Maybe someday I will...
Second of all, I have been trying really hard to be a good student this semester. This means doing everything well in advance and doing all my reading so I am prepared for class and participating in discussion and taking good notes. Not that I wasn't a good student before, I just wasn't as... zealous. Anyway. So I have been trying really hard- and to get to bed on time and wake up early enough that I can take my time getting ready and not rush out the door like I usually do in the mornings (I am not a morning person) and to make my lunches and not buy junk food.
All this has been going well, though having no money may have thrown a wrench into that plan. But for the most part, it has been going well. As part of this endeavor, as I said, I have been doing all my reading. That's right, I said all my reading. I know that most college students (and one of my professors) will say that college reading assignments are not meant to actually be read- there's no way to get it all done. Well, I can say (at least for my class load this semester) it can be done, it just might not be the most enjoyable thing to do. And working 20 hours a week on top of that makes it a little difficult.
Overall though, I have really actually enjoyed my readings. My psychology classes are really interesting, and my English class is reading the Iliad and that has been interesting too. Overall so far, I am finding that classes are infinitely more interesting when you know what the heck the professor is talking about for an hour (or in my case, 1.5 hours each for 3 classes out of 5...)
So, today, being curious and hoping to invoke pity, I decided to go on a quest (which involved no actual physical movement) to figure out just how many pages I've read so far. Now this count is no respecter of page size- that is, my psych textbooks are regular textbook size, while my copy of the Iliad is probably a 5" x 7" size-ish. I'm sure square footage of reading would be interesting to calculate too, but I'm not that nerdy.
So how many pages do you think I've read this semester? Keep in mind I'm taking a World Lit. class, a Psychology of Personality class, a(n) Adolescent Psychology class, a Marriage and Family class, and a Writing in the Social Sciences class. How many do you think? In 14 days of school? Seven hundred twenty-seven .
727 pages!!!
Holy smokes that's a lot. (I have found myself saying "holy smokes" a lot because "holy crap" is generally inappropriate around the three year old nephew.)
Can you believe it though?! That is a LOT of pages. Plus my 20 hours of work a week, and I'd say I'm pretty much booked.
Anyway- I just thought you should know just how hard I'm working. :P
Have a lovely evening,
... for those of you out of school, yours will be pleasantly textbook free.
-mollie
p.s.- My English class was MIA today. I could not find it anywhere. I went to 2 different classrooms on campus and then went back to the original one and still found no one. Hmmm...
p.p.s.- I have pictures of my room that I will post at some point.
p.p.p.s.- My roommates went to the Provo Temple on Sunday to take pictures. I was invited. So I went with them and we took pictures there. There were tons of missionaries hanging around so we recruited them to take the pictures. I got a missionary to take a few on my camera. Oh wait, no I didn't. He apparently didn't push the button down hard enough any of the times he was supposedly taking our picture, because I reviewed the pictures today and found... none. Humphf. Sorry to you. No pictures of the roommates yet.

A First
Last night I did something I never thought I'd do- and something I've never done before...
I ate the *heel of a loaf of bread!
What is the world coming to?!
-mollie
p.s.- I was recently informed that I am dramatic. Do not be deceived- it is completely and absolutely untrue.

I'm in Ohio!!
Hello there everyone!
I'm just writing to inform you that I'm now broadcasting from Ohio! Yesterday I spent the evening in Maryland!!!!
Oh wait, no. I didn't. That's just what my bank statement says...
Yes, as for news from me, I recently had the joy of having my credit card number stolen. I was sitting at my apartment last night doing homework and thought I better check my bank account online. I checked it, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but 4 fraudulent charges made yesterday. My heart skipped a beat, and when it started again, I called Erin who told me I better call the number on my card and cancel it right away. I called the number and got a lady who spoke broken English to me and didn't seem to believe me when I said I didn't lose my card, but it was being used. That lady worked for MasterCard. Then I called my bank and left a message with them telling them what had happened and left my phone number.
I knew I would have to call them back in the morning to make sure they got the message/everything was settled, and thus spent a very unrestful night dreaming about the various conversations I was going to have with the bank and what charges were being made in the hours until then. In the middle of one of those dreams, my phone rang and I grabbed it and answered before I knew what I was doing. It was 6.30 am here, and it was my bank. They said the MasterCard number I had called was just a relay service- meaning they were going to send the bank my information in the morning when the bank was open. Since the lady had me on the phone, she said she could cancel the card for me right then, which she kindly did. I did not get the lady's name, but she was very friendly and kind and I appreciated her helpfulness very very much- considering I had no idea what I was doing/talking about really. She told me everything I needed to do and everything that was going to happen in the next few weeks to get the whole thing resolved. So helpful! I wish I knew her name, but we shall call her Abby since that is the name of the very nice lady in Erin's latest blog post. And as Erin said, the world needs more Abbys.
After that, I decided I better call my parents now (It would have been about 2 am if I called them when I discovered the problem, and I didn't want them to think I died...). My mom went to the bank and filled out the forms on my behalf and now we wait. The card got another charge on it this morning (in Ohio) after my mom went to the bank- luckily that charge got rejected.
So someone out there is livin' large in Maryland and Ohio with my money! From the looks of things they had an expensive dinner or two last night and then headed over to the gas station in town for a couple more transactions. This morning was another hit at a gas station.
You know, it is almost satisfying to think that even though someone was using my credit card, they were only buying gas with it. In a week it's going to be gone and they won't have anything to show for their dishonest scheming- although, I suppose buying something bigger/better may have increased the chance of catching them? I have no idea how these things work...
So that's my story of the day. Pretty exciting. I know I wrote recently about leaving my card at a frozen yogurt restaurant in Provo for a few days, and getting it back without any fraudulent charges on it. I apparently spoke too soon. However, I am more inclined to think it was a London connection than a frozen yogurt connection. At my London reunion, 3 people talked about getting their card numbers stolen much in the same fashion mine was, for the same types of charges. While we were in London, our director continuously warned us against using them a lot because people who had gone to London in previous semesters were finding themselves back in the US with fraudulent charges on their cards. Knowing this in London, I was very paranoid about where I used my card, and essentially only used ATMs, but apparently I still made a bad move. Abby (from the bank) thought perhaps it was an ATM I was using near where I was staying that was getting the numbers.
And, I'm more inclined to think it is some big fraud ring production in London (linking me to all the other people who had theirs stolen) rather than the surfer-type guy at the frozen yogurt place who stole my number, manufactured a fake card, and sold it to someone in the U.S. But I could be wrong. I'd rather not think about it. The whole thing made me very sad [I am trying really hard to save money, and someone else is just stealing it right out from under me?!]- there may have been tears involved. But, I suppose I just need to count my blessings for catching it on the first day the charges were made- that was lucky.
Anyway- just thought I'd share the latest and greatest adventure of yours truly! I know, you all wish your life could be as exciting as mine!
until again,
mollie
p.s.- I kind of wish I was in Maryland and Ohio eating out and buying gas... it could have been a nice break from school!
I'm just writing to inform you that I'm now broadcasting from Ohio! Yesterday I spent the evening in Maryland!!!!
Oh wait, no. I didn't. That's just what my bank statement says...

London Revisited
Hello everyone!

So, thank goodness it's the weekend, first of all!! I am so happy that it's the weekend, though I have a lot of homework (reading) to do before Monday. Blah. But at least I'm not in class/working so much right now. Yesterday I had interviews with students scheduled around the one class I have. I went to class and then had more interviews. Someone on BookExchange wanted to buy my Women's Studies book I listed, so I gave it to someone in the office to hand off since I told the girl to meet me there, but ended up having interviews go over time.
So, I made $40 from that, first of all, which is really exciting. $40 is $40! And then I walked home at about 5 pm. I got picked up at about 5:45 by Lizzy who already had Becky with her, and we were going to drive to Las Terascas (Mexican Restaurant... obviously) to meet David Lake to eat dinner before David drove us all up to Heber to go to David Heywood's house for our London Reunion!!!!

I was really excited about it. Dinner was really yummy and then the drive up the canyon was pretty. Then we showed up at Dave's and ate and caught up with each other and took pictures. We made a card to bring to the Hollands today. We then played a homemade version of CatchPhrase with London words! Awww London! How I miss it so very very much!
It was really weird to see so many of us together outside of the London Centre. And another thing- we are LOUD when we get together. I'll have to bring earplugs or something next time- seriously!
But it was so much fun! Annie (one of the girls) is already engaged to the boyfriend she left in the states while we were away! Crazy!
There were about 20 of us, and the group was 38, so I guess we had about 1/2. It seemed like more than that, but anyway. And, I suppose the picture we took was after a few people left, so there were more there earlier.
It was so FUN! I miss London! Ok, I know I said that already. But I miss it so much!
On the way home, David was driving through the canyon and we saw these red smears in the road, and I figured it was blood from a deer, and then there was more blood and then there was guts and a smooshed dear in the road! We were all screaming- it was disgusting, and surprising. Scared me.
I got home last night at about midnight and slept in this morning until 9. I woke up and did my Eng. 201 reading, and then got dressed and went to Erin's for a while. They left to go to the Utah State Fair, which I really really really wanted to go to, but I kind of coordinated a Freshman Academy Peer Mentor bonfire for the night, so I am going to that in about 2 minutes!

I'm so excited for the bonfire- I have wanted to go to a bonfire all summer! Kent took me to one once, but when we got there everyone was leaving. So this time, it's going to be a true bonfire experience. I even bought bananas, chocolate chips, and marshmellows to try the banana boat thing- last time I tried I was at Girls' Camp and a bear came and ate my banana (and lots of other things) while we were all sitting there... before I got a chance to roast it. So sad.
Anyway- Here's some pictures from NSO (the first one... me with Sanita, a fellow PM) and then the rest are pictures from the London Reunion!!
Good times!

Working Like a Dog
Hello there dear readers.
I'm bored, and I've finished my reading for tomorrow (hurrah!) so I've decided to give myself a little break, even though I should probably be starting reading for classes next week. Blah. Today I was on campus 9 hours, so it's getting a little better. Although, my last class gets out after 6 pm, and that's pretty late!! Work has been busy this week, but I start interviews with my students tomorrow and I'm kind of excited about it! Interviews are exhausting, but they are one of my favorite parts of the semester!
Anyway.
I was looking at my blog recently, and the wonders of Google showed me that someone recently found my blog by searching "blogspot mollie" on google. Being curious, I typed in that very phrase into google. I found my blog listed there on the first page, but then got so curious about all the other things that came up under the title "blogspot mollie" that I started looking around. And, the majority of them are about dogs. I didn't really realize that people write blogs about their dogs (or cats for that matter), but apparently they do! Seriously. I would say 75-80% of the websites that come up are speaking of a dog. I found one that said: "Today we say goodbye to the 2nd largest pup in Mojo and Pazzy's litter, Mollie. She was born with a spot on her left upper lip, hence the name Mollie."
... what? "hence the name Mollie." ? What does that mean? Come to think of it, I have a spot on my left upper lip! (It's a freckle.) But really, I'm still not sure what that means.
Another site said Mollie is "the name of old ladies and puppies". Well, excuuuse me! I know I'm 20, but I didn't think that was "old" yet!
I found two jack russell terriers, one lab, one poodle mix, two bassett hounds, and one mutt named Mollie- and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head!
I found 2 blogs (in the first 5 pages of the google search) that talked about people Mollie's death... with a variety of Mollies being the subject there. That's depressing.
I found a Mollie who is, for some reason, spending three months in Rwanda (the why was unclear) and posting updates and pictures of all her escapades.
There were three Mollies who owned photography businesses.
There was one that said "Mollie is a variation of Mary. I've met a lot of Marys but not a lot of Mollies, though the name seems to be coming into its own popularity. I'm not sure why though, since it means 'sea of bitterness'." Sea of bitterness?! Megan means "Pearl"- don't think I haven't noticed. Sea of bitterness?! Seriously! I'm not a sea of bitterness!
ok... well, I'm not always...
Anyway. When I just google my name, I come up with lots of old cemetery/burial listings. Nothing really current. I guess there aren't too many famous Mollie Dickersons out there.
This whole thing reminds me of a story someone (Erin I think... but it could have been another family member) told me about my nephew Will (who is generally adorable by the way. But don't tell that to Erin- she's been cleaning stinky underwear lately...). She said there was a little boy outside and Will, as he is wont to do, went out and said hello and asked him his name. The little boy said his name was Will. And Will said "No, I'm Will!" and the other little boy kept insisting it was his name too. As the debate continued, Will just got more and more upset and started yelling "I'M WILL!" at the boy, apparently not understanding that two people could be named the same thing without endangering the existence of the other.
I'M MOLLIE!!!
So there. And to all you people who have dogs named Mollie, at least try to refrain from mentioning it to me if we ever happen to meet. This is usually what happens probably 60% of the time when I meet someone. "Hi, my name is Mollie." "Mollie?! Ohmigosh- my [grandma's/uncle's/best friend's boyfriend's/sister's/neighbor's] dog's name is Mollie!" ... Uhh... thanks? Woof? Not sure what to say to that.
This is the problem with giving animals people names. Or maybe giving people animal names? Anyway- I suppose our family isn't guilt-free either because we have a dog named Nikki, which I suppose could be construed as a people name. This reminds me of the time the way-too-touchy piano man came over to tune the piano. I was in high school and came home and was sitting down at the table to eat a snack. The piano man was sitting at the other end of the table and apparently got introduced to me and the dog at the same time. While I was sitting there eating my Chinese food, trying to look busy reading the newspaper, the piano man says "You're such a good girl Mollie! Such a good girl! Yes you are!" Not knowing what to say, I looked at him out of the corner of my eye and luckily saw that he was looking at the ground and that, yes, the dog was laying next to him and he was petting her.
So luckily he was not making such odd comments to me, but unfortunately there's no good way to fix that problem at that point. "Oh, actually the dog's name is Nikki." "Thanks for the praise, but most 17 yr. olds know how to use a fork..." My favorite part was when Mom called from the other room: "Mollie?!" ... what was I supposed to do then?!
Anyway.
I'm just rambling now, but I thought you should know because I'm a little bored. I might start posting things I've learned in my classes- be thankful I haven't gotten that desperate for material yet!
-mollie (not a dog).
*editor's note: I really don't mind if people tell me they know a dog with the name Mollie, but after they say it, I really don't know how to respond.
*editor's [second] note: despite all this, I do like my name.

Junior Year- In The Beginning
there was the word. And the word was with God.
Just kidding.
Hello!
So, contrary to my last post, I did get excited about seeing people in my classes, while sitting in them waiting for everyone to get there. I had anxiety about picking an outfit for the second day of school, and I did not sleep like a baby.
So I guess it all came later, though it wasn't there at first. I got excited about seeing people in my classes because a couple of my coworkers are psych majors and it turns out we're in a couple of the same classes! I also ran into people from my freshman and sophomore years- crazy, crazy. You wouldn't think that would happen at a school with 30,000+ undergrads, but it did!
My first day outfit was boring, and so was my second day outfit, but I didn't know what to wear this morning for some reason. You know those mornings when you get up and you just can't decide on what to wear? Surely I'm not the only one who has these mornings. I get an outfit in mind, put it on, decide something looks weird about it, try to think of something else, put that on, and the process continues. I think I changed some piece of my outfit about 6 times this morning. A little excessive, I know.
And I didn't sleep like a baby, but not because I was anxious. Because, as previously mentioned, I have a cold. And because, as not previously mentioned, someone in this neighborhood has a dog. That barks. A lot. And, I believe a big truck comes around and empties all the dumpsters in the area every morning at 3 am. Ok, it's not at 3 am. But I think it's pretty much at about 6 am and that's plenty early for a neighborhood of college students!!
So, in short, my first couple days have been long and tiring. Work is always really busy in the first couple weeks with getting to know the students and holding interviews and getting all the work done to set the routine for the rest of the semester. My classes seem interesting, but seem to have a lot of reading. I made a goal to do all my reading this semester. Maybe it's because I didn't quite do it all before, but it seems like there's a TON, all the time!
I'm taking Psych 321- Personality, Psych 341- Developmental Psych of Adolescents, Eng. 315- Writing in the Social Sciences, Rel 234- LDS Marriage and Family Relationships, and Eng. 201- Masterpieces of World Literature.
All the classes seem pretty good as far as content and professors, but I'm worried it's going to be a lot of work. But then, I suppose college is supposed to be a lot of work.
I have some pictures to post from NSO (I know, I said that before) and I have my camera out, but I'm too lazy to connect it to upload them, etc. It's getting late and I need to get to bed, especially because I'm trying to fight off this cold! I spent 10 hours on campus today. Yesterday I spent 11 hours on campus. Oy. Hopefully once I get into a good routine my days won't seem as long.
until again,
mollie

Junior Year
Hello there!
So... tomorrow is my first day of junior year- well, sort of I guess because I took enough credits over the summer that I don't think I'm technically a junior. But anyway... it is my first day of my third year of college.
I can't believe time has gone by so fast! At this time next year, I'm going to be preparing for my SENIOR year of college! Oy.
You know? When I was in elementary school, even up to high school, I was excited about the first day of school. You get to see everyone again, you get to wear your new clothes, and you get to find out who's in all your classes. I used to get so excited I couldn't sleep.
Now, I don't know enough people to be excited about seeing them on campus or in my classes, I'm not going to be wearing new clothes, and I'm pretty sure I will sleep like a baby tonight.
Hmmm... when did that happen?! It's kind of sad actually.
Oh well.
At any rate, Bring It On Fall 2008- I'm ready for you!
At least, I'm trying to be...
-mollie
p.s.- in other news, 1) Megan and Chad were here for most of the day today. 2) Utah has been having crazy cold weather with lots of rain and thunderstorms. 3) We tried to save a runaway dachshund today and chased it down the road into someone's yard- it didn't seem to be as intent on being saved as we were on saving it.
4) I found out my RA from freshman year is my neighbor! 5) I have a cold.

"Konnichiwa!" said the chicken
Hello ladies and gentlemen!
I am writing my inaugural post from my new apartment for the fall, or shall I say "condo"? :) (So obviously it took me longer to move in here than I predicted in my last post.)
I have been staying at Erin's house for the past week or so while I was in the process of getting everything out of her crawl space and moving it to my new room, plus working 40 hours a week. It has been sad to have Erin and her family out of town, but it was kind of nice to get to move on my own time (meaning, I didn't have to do it all in one exhausting day...) and I had somewhere to stay while doing so.
Staying at Erin's by myself was an adventure to say the least. One time I ended up at my coworker (Mindy)'s house. Then I slept at Erin's 3-4 nights by myself. Last night I was going to stay there, but there was a howling wind that went through the house and then the rain, thunder, and lightning started, and I drove to my brother's house. Unfortunately because of BYU's honor code, I couldn't stay with him. So, after debating whether or not to call someone I know, I decided *duh!* I have an apartment/bedroom that I might as well go stay in- there are other people who live there, so I won't be alone (which was really my worry.)
So I stayed my first night here last night. Because it's the beginning of fall, there were people outside until about 11 talking, etc. but they finally calmed down and I fell asleep pretty early, though I was awakened at about 3 am by lots of lightning and thunder and I was glad I didn't try to brave it at Erin's that night.
While staying at Erin's, I had an evening ritual which I sort of wrote about before. I tried to get there before it got dark (yes, Kyle made fun of me for this...) and would then go around the house checking all the doors and closets before turning off the lights, closing doors, and going downstairs. I'd turn on the TV so the silence wouldn't freak me out. And then I'd pack my overnight bag- everything I would need if I got scared and had to bolt out the front door at a moment's notice, with time only to grab my keys, phone, purse, and duffle bag. Of course, if I was really scared, I probably would not think to grab the duffle bag, but that's besides the point. Then I'd lay down on the couch, turn off the lights, watch TV until I was really exhausted, and then turn it off and quickly roll over and try to sleep. This worked pretty well.
Yes, I am afraid of the dark. And I am still somewhat afraid of thunderstorms at night. Yes, I'm 20 years old. I have come to terms with this, so judge me all you want! I am a bona fide chicken!
On Friday night, Katie (my roommate from Fr. and So. years) slept over and we ate Wendy's and caught up on everything that's been happening in our oh-so-exciting lives. It was fun.
Yesterday Sara (from London!) came over and we hung around. She was exhausted and it was hot and I was boring, so our visit wasn't all that exciting. But it was nice to see a London face again! I miss London so much!
Anyway. New Student Orientation was Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week. It is extremely exhausting, but I love getting to meet the new students and do all the BYU things. It is kind of nice to start off each school year with all the inspirational (though somewhat cheesy) movies/presentations BYU does for the new students. I have 40 students this year, and I am excited!
Somewhere in the last 8 days, my credit/debit card was lost for 3 days. I always keep it in the same place, so when it wasn't there, I worried. Finally, I called a frozen yogurt place I remember going to with my brother, and they had it! It is so unlike me, but I guess I put it down on the counter or something. Really weird. But I got it back! With no fraudulent charges on it! One of my coworkers said it was one of those tender mercy things... I suppose it was.
Ummm what else? I have a picture or two from NSO, but my camera cord is in the car and I'm definitely not going out to get it.
So I found out my new ward (congregation) meets at 8:30 am! OY!!! So early! I went to church with my brother again today because I didn't want to force myself out of bed that early just yet.
Oh, my condo! Let's talk about that. It is seriously across the street from campus, which is so much nicer than Glenwood, which was about a 25 minute walk away. It has 4 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen. It has a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fireplace, and comfy carpet. And covered parking- assuming I figure out how to get a parking permit one of these days. It's pretty new- the living room and kitchen both have wood floors. And there's a storage closet and a small attic space. Hurrah! I'm so very excited! I spent Saturday setting it up and getting things set, and though my room isn't huge, the closet is pretty good sized and the room is mine. And that's really what matters. I think I'm going to like living here a lot :) Oh, and those other 3 private bedrooms? 2 Japanese girls and 1 Taiwanese girl. They are all really good friends. One of them seems to speak pretty good English- not sure about the other two. One of them is on the phone as I type- one thing about it, they don't have to worry about me eavesdropping, that's for sure.
Though I was/am kind of nervous about living with three best friends who are from a different continent, they all have seemed very nice and considerate, so I'm sure things will be fine. And they seem to take good care of the apartment- it always seems very clean, etc. So that will be good. Speaking from [a little too much] experience, it could be worse...
Alright- well, I think I'm going to go to bed now. Just thought I hadn't written in a while so I better give an update. I left my glasses in the car and already took out my contacts, so I'm typing this with my face about ten inches from the screen and my eyes are getting tired. Megan and Chad are driving to Erin's tonight to stay for 12-18 hours or so and then Erin and Co. come home tomorrow. I have to buy cinder blocks, groceries, and possibly cheap fabric to hang up for curtains because the blinds just seem so boring. Exciting, exciting!
until again,
