and...

p.s.- my sore throat is gone too!

i'm a savvy sleeper-- i know how to keep myself healthy. i rock. well, at least my immune system does...

p.p.s.- maybe soon i'll write you a story about the 13 yr old boy/traveling-salesman who insulted me the other day.

p.p.p.s.- new festive lay-out for st. patrick's day? even though i don't even remotely celebrate... (except for maybe wearing green to avoid eager elementary-aged pinchers... but you can check out last year's St. Patrick's Day post for those details...) Enjoy!

One Enchanted-- Earthquake?

Hello there ladies and germs...

(I always used to think that greeting from my elementary school teachers was so juvenile-- and never laughed. but... it kind of rolls off your tongue...)

Anyway. In about 10 minutes I have to walk down to the Cannon Center to meet with a couple students, so I'll try to make this short-- or I'll try to cram as much as I can into 10 minutes.

I can't really think of much to say. Monday was a day off, which was great. I can't remember doing anything productive, which means it was a successful day off :) On Tuesday we had Monday classes, which was fine because by the end of the day, I was so excited that the next day wasn't Tuesday. (If that makes sense...)

Kent and Kyle came over and decided they were going to go see Enchanted at the $1 Theater. (It was bargain night, so we got in for 75 cents. Can you believe the Dollar Theater has bargain night??) So we went and saw that. I thought it was alright. I wasn't hugely crazy about it. A little too... corny? for me. I can't think of the right word. But it was fine. I'd probably watch it again, but probably not too many more times after that.

We came back to my apartment and hung around and talked for a while.

I went to bed with my head feeling funny and right as I was drifting off to sleep, I was trying to decide what the feeling was, and decided it's that feeling you get when you're sick and you're light-headed all the time. That's how I felt. So I was worried I'd wake up sick on Wednesday.

Indeed, I did wake up feeling a little gross. My trusty thermometer (of which I have two) told me I had a fever, but I wasn't sure how accurate it was. So I got up and got dressed and packed my lunch and headed off to class. A lot of things were aching though, so I wasn't sure how it was going to go. My head felt a little better than the night before, but I was still feeling kind of weird.

So I went to Anthropology and fell asleep because I couldn't be awake. And then when I woke up, I decided that I wasn't feeling better and that I might as well go home and sleep instead of just migrating from one class to the next to take another 50 minute nap. I walked home and slept for about 7 hours, hoping to stave off illness.

I think it worked-- I woke up today feeling quite better-- except for a lingering sore throat. But I'm almost thinking it'd be healthier to stay at home-- to bad all my classes are on campus where all the sicklings come, with reckless abandon, to spread their germs. Honestly? There are 8 people in the Freshman Academy office right now, and I think 5 of them are sick. Yum yum. Not that I blame them particularly, but... eww.

So I got to my English class this morning and my professor said there'd been an earthquake. In Nevada. At about 7:15 this morning. Where was I at 7:15 this morning? In the shower. I did not feel an earthquake. I was almost sad, because I've never felt one before, but mostly not because the idea of feeling the solid ground become all mobile under your feet is probably very disconcerting. And if you know me, you know that I worry irrationally about natural disasters. Which is one of my reasons for wanting to live in CT. No earthquakes. No tornadoes. Occasionally there's a hurricane, but that's about it. And I think I can handle a hurricane.

They say Utah is way overdue for a big earthquake and every once in a while I think about it and it makes me nervous. I don't want to be here when it happens. The one that happened this morning was a 6.0-- which is fairly big. And people in SLC (an hour away from me and about 2 hours away from the epicenter) said pictures fell off their walls and everything from the shock they felt. Earthquakes are scary. I think I need to write a letter: "Dear God. Please keep the earthquakes far enough away from me that I don't feel them and they don't kill me or anything. Thanks. Mollie."

Anyway. That's about all I have to say for the day. Oh! And, I wrote my first critical analysis English paper last week. I'm not very outspoken in that class, partly because it's 8 am and partly because there are other people who dominate the conversation that I don't feel like fighting with, and partly because when I have raised my hand, I haven't gotten called on, so I tend to not bother unless I really really want to speak. Anyway. My point was, I'm not really a "star" in the class. She handed them back with a warning speech about how BYU students are so focused on the grade and a lot of people have probably never gotten anything but As in their life and how she can help us get up to that point, but we might have a ways to go.

I got my paper back (which wasn't my best work, which makes me feel a bit guilty) and got a 92. I was pretty darn excited. First, because of her "not-everyone-gets-As" speech, and second, because it wasn't my best work. Imagine what kind of score I can get if I put in my best effort. Hurrah. I know it sounds really bad/arrogant/proud, but ... I've never really had to work my butt off for an A in an English class. I guess I should make myself work harder so I can be really good at it. Maybe this class will motivate me. But it is kind of hard when work that isn't your best earns you an A in the class...

Anyway. Well, I better be off to meet with my students.

Hope you're all having a lovely day-- sorry, no pictures with this post.

Laterrrr

Cracker (not meant to be derogatory)

So I should be writing a paper, but I've encountered a severe case of writer's block at the 2/3 done point, so I'm kind of stalling. And I just have to report on a recent purchase of mine. I bought the crackers shown, not expecting them to taste so great because they're supposedly healthy and all. But I just opened them for a writing boost, and man, they're good.

Some people will probably say they taste like cardboard, but because I don't like salt that much, and I like a bit of a rough texture to a cracker (it makes me feel like it's healthier... I don't know why...) I have to say I like them.

Yummm.

Even though they were a bit out of the range of my regular monetary amount devoted to buying crackers/chips-ish.

Oh by the way, I bought these crackers (and $55 worth of other food because I haven't gone grocery shopping in about 7 weeks...) at Wal-Mart tonight, and almost had a heart attack when I got to the check-out with all my food and realized I left my credit card at home. Luckily I had my check book. Of course that probably angered the long line of people behind me, but I scribbled as fast as I could...

a post about nothing?

whoa-- where have all these posts been coming from all of a sudden?!?!

i don't know!

anyway. so today is valentine's day... well, it's over in the eastern and central time zones, but in UT, there's still 10 more minutes to it. i hope you all enjoyed it. last year i had pictures to document certain things, but this year, not so. oh well. you'll just have to believe that i got some cute valentines. oh gosh-- and there's one that you really should see. a coworker of mine printed out pages from a Mr. T coloring book (can you believe they make such a thing??) and wrote odd things inside. Mine was a picture of Mr. T watering flowers. On the inside, it said "These flowers are going to need a lot of watering to look even 1/3 as good as you. Happy Valentine's Day from Mr. T and Jason."

It was pretty hilarious. Almost the best part of my day.

I was laying in bed this morning, kind of tired. I don't know how I used to get by in high school on like 4 hours of sleep. Seriously. Because now I feel like I'm going to die if I get less than 7. Anyway. Back to the point. I set my alarm for 6:55 and woke up this morning at 6:45 and tried to make myself go back to sleep. It worked, and I was in the middle of a dream when I thought "Hmmm this has been a long 10 minutes. I should wake up and see what time it is." And then I dreamt (that's not a word??... I'm too lazy to figure out what spelling will make the red squiggly line go away...) that I DID roll over and check out my alarm clock. and then about five minutes later i thought "wait, i'm still asleep. wake up!" so i woke up, rolled over, and grabbed my phone. it said 7:15. I have a class at 8. I couldn't figure out why my alarm didn't go off. Just because I set it for pm and not am... sheesh that's no reason to not read my mind and figure out no one would need an alarm set for 6:55 PM!

I showered like a mad woman (...I don't know how mad women shower, and you probably don't either, so that's probably not a great simile...) and then threw my clothes together (and put them on) and ran out the door. I got to class 2 minutes late, but my professor was 5 minutes late, so there.

We got a lot of snow last night, as I already lamented in my previous entry.

I went to the office and had my biweekly interview with Sharon to see how things are going. I went to peer mentor meeting at 11. We had a pizza party for reaching 75% on interviews with students. Hurrah!!! Hopefully I'll be able to get in my last 3. I want to see them, but apparently they don't want to see me. Then we all just hung around and talked about office-ee things and it was a good morning.

I went to Jamba Juice and ordered "strawberry shortcake"-- one of their secret flavors. I was just talking to Kent and Kyle and Erin about this. Jamba Juice has secret flavors. But I've always been too afraid to order them because I feel like I'm in the Mafia or doing a drug deal or something. But I finally just went up and asked, all casual-like, "Do you guys make the Strawberry Shortcake?" and she said yes. It was pretty good, but I don't think I'll order it again unless I get a weird craving. It's probably 100% sugar, but oh well.

Went to my sister's for a while-- ate chocolate and cookies. Had pizza for dinner. (Her and her husband celebrate a couple days after Valentine's Day so it's not ridiculously busy...) Saw my brother. Played with will. Will is so cute! I don't know how many times I can say that, but I haven't reached my capacity yet. He's SO CUTE. I love him. I said "Will, will you be my valentine?" and he said "Ok Mawwee, I'll be your Valentine for Happy Valentine's Day!" You can always count on two year olds for things like that...

Wrote a paper. Thought I had two papers due tomorrow, but it turns out only one! HURRAH! Of course, that means I'll be writing the other one (along with doing a ton of catch-up work) over the weekend, but I'm all about instant gratification (ok, not "all" about, but... ) so I'm excited about it.

Have to take a test on Saturday. Boo.

I had a whole entry planned about various life observations I've made for the day, but I can't remember most of them and I'm getting tired so I'm going to end this and get off to bed, which is ok because it has already gotten pretty long.

So this was basically a nothing update.
Eh, whatever. It's my blog.

things that are white

so I haven't written in a while and thought I'd offer a little update.

Not much is happening. In two weeks the semester will be half over and I'm excited for that, except almost not because I don't know what I'm doing when this semester ends.

I've been thinking a lot (I know-- if you know me, you're thinking "what else is new?") but this time about something in particular. I have recently decided when I "grow up", I want to own a dalmatian puppy. named dottie. and I want it to look something like the picture I posted.
I love dalmatians-- I have since I was like 5. I think they're adorable. And as I've grown older, I have decided it was one of the best decisions God made on that 6th day. And I think it shows God must have some fashion sense. I mean really, a dog with natural polka dots. How could I not love it? (again, if you know me, you know this is a fashion preference of mine...) Dalmatians are so... classic? And I'm kind of like that. I go for things that are "classic". Traditional. I don't know. Whatever. The point was, I want a dalmatian p
uppy named Dottie.
I've been thinking about dalmatians because I have a dalmatian poster and stuffed animal in my apartment here (yes, I do. Judge me.) and I've just always loved them. And then when I was at my sister's the other night, she was talking about a freckle that had recently developed on my nephew's face and said she thought it was going to be a mole but that they just have to wait and see. I said "It's like watching a dalmatian get its spots." and then I looked up pictures of dalmatians on google to have a little feel good moment because I love them so, and then I decided I'm going to have one when I grow up.

And now you know the whole twisted complete thought process. And no, I don't have that much free
time on my hands. there were plenty of things I should have been doing.

I've been spending a lot of time at my sister's, which has been nice. It gets me away from my apartment and I get to play with adorable (albeit extremely frustrating at times) Will and hold adorable Sawyer. Sawyer's growing on me. He wasn't much fun when he only slept and cried and spit up. But now he's awake a lot and rolling around on the floor and giggling and I like him. :P

The other night I was at Erin's and Will was snuggling on the couch, winding down and getting ready for bed. We we
re watching "Dora" (The Explorer) and Will was cuddled up on my lap under a blanket. I couldn't see his face, but he hadn't spoken in a while, so I thought he maybe hopefully had fallen asleep. We sat there for a few minutes longer and he didn't make a sound, so I thought it was pretty likely that he was asleep and laid back to relax and wait for the energy to accumulate to pick him up and bring him up to bed when Will's little voice broke the silence: "I peed."

....

Wow. I almost freaked out and then remembered he was wearing a diaper and then laughed. And that was it-- those two words and then he was quiet for another five minutes or so. It was just like "Oh, I want you to know..." He said it completely dead-pan, like a newscast or something. Just offering the "breaking news" I guess.

He's so cute.

Weird sometimes, but cute.

Anyway.

I think that's about it. The past two days, it got up to 50 degrees here. FIFTY! That's like... warm! I was so excited!! Until I went to bed last night to the newscast that said "Tomorrow we'll be expecting a winter storm that will get pretty messy. We should be getting about 1-5"."

1-5 inches?! That's a lot! ):

now, let me explain a little bit about snow. First of all, I like snow. I really do. I get excited about the first snow of the year. I like to play in it. But I don't like to walk in it after it's already snowed like 4' this season. I have classified snow into two categories and I specifically like "friendly snow", as opposed to mean snow. Friendly or nice snow is when the sky just kind of glosses over and slowly, one by one, big fluffy flakes float down everywhere until you're walking in a pretty winter wonderland. It's pretty. It's nice. Mean snow is... mean. It's when dark snow clouds usurp your blue skies and all of a sudden, little flakes are flying everywhere-- in your eyes and into your coat and they're cold!

I've posted a couple pictures to show what I mean-- I hope from my descriptions you can decide which is friendly and which is mean.

Alright. Well, I've sufficiently bored myself with posting here, which means you're probably tres ennuye (accent aigu).

Oh, and I suppose I should say Happy Valentine's Day.
Maybe I'll post again tomorrow-- who knows? I'm really just full of surprises...

Keep yourselves warm and cozy.

p.s.- in case you didn't catch on, "things that are white": newborn dalmatian puppies, snow, me.

Londonderry Air-- HA!

hello there reader(s)!

I hope you all find yourselves happy and well and warm wherever you may be.

Ok, first I have to gripe about something. My mother and sisters would tell you this (griping) is one of my strengths, so pay attention. People who park in the underground parking when they think it's going to snow bother me. I've parked in the underground every night since I got the car to drive and the past week has been a headache trying to get a parking place. Why? Because for some reason Mother Nature decided Utah didn't have enough snow and has been trying to remedy that fact for the last week or so. So, when I get home and want to park in my habitual place (you should all understand by now that I don't change my ways without kicking and screaming...) there are none to be found! I had to park out in the lot way down by the first building tonight. I feel like my car is naked-- like when it's in the underground I've safely tucked it in for the night. But now it's just out there braving the elements. Poor thing. And then the next time I want to drive it, I'll have to traipse through snow and spend 15 minutes excavating my car while the bums who parked in the underground walk by and get in their nicely un-snowed on cars and drive away...

Anyway. It's like people who show up for the devotional at BYU when they know it's a General Authority or something speaking. I'm the one who's been going on a regular basis, but I can't find a seat because all these desperadoes showed up. Annoying.

Anyway. (I think I use that word too much.)

So... you're probably wondering about the title of this post-- let me explain. I won't be wordy with this because I'm too excited to be. (And that kind of excitement is saying something...) I got accepted to study abroad for London Summer 2008!!

I'M GOING TO LONDON (and scotland and maybe france and maybe ireland) FOR THE SUMMER!! I almost cried from excitement.

This was something I kind of mentioned off-handedly to my parents last summer as something that I wished I could do but knew would never happen for me. And then, all of a sudden, pieces started falling into place, and here I am, accepted, planning on traveling to London within the year. I never thought this would happen and I'm ready to burst about it.

Assuming I can come up with the money, it is going to be amazing. I am way beyond excited. I think about it all the time and have to remind myself it's happening. I'm going to London. I'm going to fly over the Atlantic ocean and live where people say "bloody" and "bugger" and "queue" in every day conversation. I'm going to visit places where famous people came from. I'm going to see where Shakespeare was born and visit the replica of the Globe Theatre. I'm going to Scotland. I might be going to France and Ireland. I'm going to be a world traveler. Is this real?! I'm GOING TO LONDON!!!! Me. Little Mollie Dickerson from Cromwell, CT*. I keep forgetting it's real.

So that was the excitement of my day yesterday. I went to HEPE and found out (it was on the syllabus-- I just didn't look) class was canceled, which was happy. Went to the office and got an email about getting accepted to London, which was even happier. Went to class that is supposed to run from 4-6:30 and got out at 5:15 which was even MORE happy and then walked home and met a boy on the way who was very nice and cute which was even MORE happy, and then went out for dessert to celebrate with The Otts which was perhaps the happiest of all. Life was good yesterday-- good days like that don't come around that often. It's up there in my top 10.

GAH. Such a good day. Except for the part about getting to bed late and having to get up early. That part wasn't so great. But other than that, it was great.

Anyway-- that's all I'll say for today. Just had to spread the news of my fabulous day and my exciting travel plans. Of course, my travel plans to London also complicate my travel plans to CT, so I can't tell you when I'll be there again. I told my mom I wanted to visit at least for a bit this summer, even if I don't get to stay there though, so we'll see. But that's a side note when I think about the fact that I'm GOING TO LONDON!!!

Tomorrow's Friday (well, actually TODAY is friday, because it's that late...) and that's pretty much the best day of the week, so I'm happy. AND it's the first day of February, which means yucky January is over!!! AND I'm going on a date tonight!!!

AND today, I ended up scheduling an interview with one of my students who I was worried would avoid me at all costs. I don't know if the student will come tomorrow, but I've got my fingers crossed. I was amazed I even got the appointment-- so I was pretty dang excited about it.

In case you've been quickly skimming my verbosity, or haven't been able to decipher the main idea of this post, I will summarize:

Life is good.

too bad I don't have any pictures to put with this post...

-mollie

p.s.- I miss you all!!

p.p.s.- Will told me I was a "grill" today. I'm hoping he meant "girl"...

* I know that being from a small town doesn't mean I can't travel internationally, but... my point is, it's something little small-town girls don't expect to happen. At least, I'm just going to blindly generalize and say it is...
