William: Prince of Cute-hood.

so this is just a random update, because I have some random pictures for you to see.

so on wednesday, I made a pumpkin patch for my apartment- I thought it was quite creative.

on friday, I went to classes, and forgot that will was being dropped off for me to babysit, so I got a text message from a roommate and was on my way home anyway- I was only about 30 minutes late- it was just that if I had rushed, I would have been there when he got there. But my roommates were having some fun with him anyway. But when I got there, he was playing with the broom (which he did on Thursday- that's what the pictures are), and was being kind of fussy- whining about everything. So I took this an indicator of his tiredness and took him out in the hall and got him to fall asleep and brought him back into my apartment about 10 minutes later. My roommate said "How'd you do that?! He was so fussy!" ... everyone wants to know my secret- like I'd tell.

Anyway. So the pictures are from Friday afternoon- he fell asleep in his favorite position- he likes to be held by people, and usually doesn't fall asleep otherwise, so the pictures are him in his usual sleeping pose... not very comfortable for the babyholder. But anyway.

So then he was asleep on my bed when Erin and Bryce came to pick me and him up- I went to their house to babysit for the night because Bryce had a work party to go to. Nichole dropped off ashley later, so we watched a movie and talked, and it was fun (: And I got will to go to sleep!!!! This is a big deal. He was getting fussy, and it was getting late, but he was just having a ball playing. But I took him upstairs, and if you bring him into his nursery at night, and he's not ready to go to sleep, you automatically turn on his "scream and wail as loud as possible" switch. But I finally got him to calm down. And then put him down in his crib (because I REALLY had to go to the bathroom) and he woke up and started bawling again, so I repeated the process. I finally got him to sleep, and then I slowly maneuvered him until he was a little lower, and then until he was mostly horizontal, and then until he was being held in my arms away from my body so he wouldn't freak out when I put him in his crib and I wasn't touching him... this process took about 45 minutes... I finally was able to trick him into sleeping in his crib- Erin says she swears he has a censor that detects when he's being held, and he gets moved over the bar of his crib. You don't even have to put him down and he'll start bawling. Oy. But I managed to do it. And he was asleep in his crib... until I left. Which was lovely. Except my arms hurt today from holding him out away from me for about 15 minutes while I tried to get him into position so that being put in the crib wouldn't be such a shock.

But anyway. So then we came back to our apartment, and we had our scheduled cleaning check for 8 this morning. So... at 12 am t
his morning, four of us were listening to music while cleaning everything... we all had assigned duties- and we spent three hours on it. I had to mop and vacuum the floors, and then clean the sinks in the bathroom and vacuum the couch. It turned out to be much more work than expected, and picking up the couch cushions was kind of disgusting. I won't write about it.

Anyway. So then I finally went to bed at about 3 am and got up this morning and took a shower and our RA came in for our cleaning check, and she just kind of looked around- "Alright, everything looks good!" ... we will remember not to work so hard next time. I left at 8:15 to go to habitat for humanity with Bryce. His work was doing it and they were assigned to do drywall... a task at which I found myself lacking in proficiency. But I did the best I could. And it was pretty fun. And it gave me a whole new appreciation for construction men, and made me much more thankful for the house I have- because it must have taken a lot of work, and it is something that I stink at. Thank you to all the construction workers out there who build things for us- especially for the ones who build houses for people to call "home". It made me excited for whoever gets that house- ... and they will be thankful for it for the same reason I'm thankful for mine- because someone else did something they could not do, and only because they wanted to help.

Anyway. so then I got back to the dorm today at about 1 and then got dressed and went to the football game. It was pretty exciting. But we left early- when we left, byu was up 43-7, and there were 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Then on the way home, there was this sale of "Cleanflix" and all their movies- so Ashley stopped and got 3 for $20. So when we got home, I took a long nap, and then we watched the Cleanflix version of Love Actually. It made me homesick. What else is new?! (o: But it was only fo
r like 10 minutes at the end, so all is well.

Anyway. I really don't have anything to say- and I just realized I'm kind of rambling.

I'll post the pictures and get on with my evening.

Have a good weekend a

-Mollie

a 7th roommate! (and possibly more)

hello ladies and gentlemen... or whoever is reading this these days.

so I'm just posting because ... it's 11:30 and I want to go to bed, but I can't seem to find the courage to do so. You see, when I got home from class today, my roommate showed me a picture she had taken of a spider in our kitchen. if you connect the tip of your pointer finger to the tip of your thumb, and make a little circle, it was slightly bigger than that. And now, I cannot sleep.

Seriously. I'm afraid of spiders, but not really to the point of serious anxiety. I mean, we had spiders at home, but they were generally small. But these things are big. I have posted a picture for your viewing convenience. Ok, so we're not sure what kind of spider it really is, but our picture and the picture online seem strikingly similar, and we are convinced it's a hobo spider. Even if it turns out not to be, I will always think of it as a hobo spider. (Nichole sent the picture to her dad, so we are awaiting his verdict.) For the sake of this entry, we will just assume it was a hobo spider. So... hobo spiders are big. I have never really been a fan of big spiders.

And the fact that this
is what can happen if you get bit by one, really isn't making me warm up to the idea of these things just roaming free in our apartment. Hobo spiders are poisonous. POISONOUS!!! Now, spiders at home were never poisonous, and therefore the worst thing to fear was the unpleasant discovery of such an arachnid friend in your shoe, or in a corner, or crawling down the wall during the shower of an unsuspecting, innocent, bystander. But now, I have to fear a poisonous bite that could cost me some internal tissue and causes an incredibly nasty looking bite on your body. I'm telling you, I fear this with a mighty passion.

My roommates were all kind of like "yeah its scary." and my room roommate was like "it's winter- they're coming in because it's cold out!" you know what? I don't CARE if it's cold out- a POISONOUS SPIDER belongs out in the world, away from scared young college freshmen from connecticut who have never had to live under the same roof as such a beast. (although i did live with a huge hairy tarantula... but it was caged, and relatively slow-moving...) I've heard this hobo spider thing has quite the physical finesse and can reach quite high speeds if necessary. (I did not see it, but my roommates' testimony was pretty convincing) FREAKY I'm telling you.

So anyway. I thought maybe if I wrote about it, I could successfully flush out all my fears of such spiders, but apparently it has only intensified it, causing me to be more scared than I was before I started writing... causing me to be even farther away from the desirable sleep.

My roommate tried to reassure me telling me that she killed it. "And", she added, "it was a female, so that's good!" ... I'm not sure what about that is good. In my opinion, a female generally means that she brought along all her little creepy hobo spider babies... into our apartment. And now they're just waiting to grow huge, when they'll plan a revolt and come out one night and attack us all for having condoned their mother's killing.

I'm telling you. I am afraid.

Anyway. I'll try to go to sleep now. I just had to get that out. Wherever you are reading this, I hope you do not have to deal with the fear of hobo spiders.

p.s. to my last entry...

So I just have some pictures for you...

The first two are of a can of frosting I bought at the creamery down the street. I don't really like frosting- it's too sweet. But then one of my roommates (ashley) introduced me to rainbow chip frosting... (confetti frosting) and for some reason it really satisfied my sugar craving. It has changed my mind about frosting... although I think this might be the only kind I like. So I bought some. I came home last wednesday after not doing so well on an American Heritage test (though I found out that I'm in the top 15% of the class with the score I got, and that it'll be curved A LOT so I'll get an A) and went to the cupboard, to find... an empty frosting can, with a note written on the top from ashley. Apparently the sugar craving got to her. She at
e the whole thing over the course of about 2 hours. Needless to say, she felt sick. (The sugar high seemed to have interfered with her spelling- she forgot the "t" on "tonight")

Anyway. And then there's a picture of my pumpkin parade because they're just too cute not to include. I don't really understand how pumpkins can be cute, but I seem to find cuteness in all sorts of inanimate objects. I'm going to give the little five to my roommates, but I haven't figured out a clever note to attach to them yet... but shhh they don't know I'm doing it.

Anyway. So yes. This is just a p.s. of my last entry. In fact, I think that'll be the title of this entry.

Until again,
Mollie

p.s.- So I was running to hand in homework that was due before 3:30 and on my way, all of a sudden, my purse strap broke (which is really tragic because I like the purse) and I had to carry it all the way home... unluckiness of Friday, October 13th? I think so. (o:

p.p.s.- my roommate just came in and brought me a piece of chocolate chip pumpkin bread (made with real pumpkin... they scooped it themselves) she made visiting a friend from home (who also goes here) tonight. It was wonderful. I believe I said it best when I said "october has always been one of my favorite months..." mmmmmmm.

Anyway. I'm really just posting again because I'm bored.
Later.

october has always been one of my favorite months...

Hello everyone!

I don't have too much to say. This week went by fairly quickly, which was nice- with the exception of an American Heritage test on Wednesday. I haven't been up to too much. Going to school ... haven't missed a class yet, so you should be proud of me. I'm always surprised at the amount of kids that blow off classes- I would feel like I missed something important. Anyway. So I haven't been doing much. Today Eri
n came and picked me up and we went to a craft store, (at which we saw a poster that said "I may be fat, but you're ugly, and I can diet." ... it made me wonder what kind of person would buy it and/or who they'd give it to) Anyway. And then we went to McDonalds and Will was getting fussy, and then we went to Erin's house and Will took a little nap, and then we headed off to a pumpkin patch with a hay ride. It was quite fun, and then it got really cold unexpectedly, which was not very pleasant. But I bought 6 little gourds that are adorable and then 1 little cute pumpkin... all for the low low price of $2. So yeah. That's what I did today. I have a paper (rough draft) due on monday, but ... I really don't want to, so I'm n0t doing it now.

My roommates are watching "a cinderella story", which I saw at home with Ashley and Danielle... and we laughed at it then, but I don't think I want to watch it a second time. Anyway. So yeah.

I have posted some pictures of my new haircut taken last sunday, and of my little adorable nephew hanging around in the pumpkin patch. he kept following this one pumpkin around. and he'd lean over to try and pick it up, and it'd roll away, so he'd walk down and try again. It was pretty cute. (he finally got it by sitting down and rolling it up into his lap. but then he soon gave up and moved on to something more stationary)

Anyway. There's also a picture of me and Erin in the ghost painted cut-out, which is lovely, I know.

Hope all is well at your various places of viewing this.

laughing is great

well, today I had only three classes, instead of 5, and none of them were all in a row. It was lovely. However, I was supposed to meet some other kids to do the library tour for english class, but couldn't find them, so I left. Anyway. So my classes were fine today. And then I went and took the American Heritage test. ... and then I came home and ate salad for dinner (which was very good by the way) and then went with Nichole and Katie to "The Foreigner" at the theater. The nice thing about our dorm is that it's relatively close to the theaters, so when we want to go to things, it's close.

So I went, and I wasn't that excited about it. We got free tickets from our Freshman Academy group, so we all had tickets next to each other... which was weird- meeting your teachers/ fellow students outside of class. But we sat down, and the three of us ended up sitting in between our two peer mentors- our freshmen academy leader people. It was weird. But I sat next to Holly- the female FA mentor, and I really like her, so it was fun, though a little weird. But she brought her husband and we got to meet him! Hehhe... She's so nice... and hilarious. But anyway. So then we watched the show. Usually I don't really laugh at comedy things that much- because... it's funny, but it's not generally laugh out loud funny- so I give a small giggle, or an internal chuckle. But... this thing was hilarious. There is one part in particular that seriously made me laugh till I cried. It was hilarious... and I still laugh thinking about it. It was hilarious. I'm telling you. It's too bad the tickets are $14, because I would go again. (it's running until oct. 28) We got to go on OPENING NIGHT!!! which was really cool- I remember "opening night" in cromwell, and it's usually the most energy filled performance. So I was excited about it. And our tickets were free, which was way exciting too.

Oh, and today, I did get a free hotdog, chips, and cupcake... which was great because I was starving and didn't want to buy food. And I didn't have to go searching for it, which is always a plus. By the way, today there was 35 prizes still at large... and I still didn't find one. So disappointed.

Anyway. I have one class tomorrow... and I'm babysitting from 9:45-11 and then 2-6:40 with an hour break in there so I can go to class. Should be an exciting day. Then I have a couple meetings to go to tomorrow night.

I don't have pictures tonight... I will soon though.

just a random update.

Well... not too much has happened around here.

I took a psych test on saturday, went to church on sunday, wasted a lot of time, went to classes on monday, wasted more time, and then went to one class today. I started my peer mentoring at the elementary school today. I was kind of disappointed. It seemed like... we were useless. We sat next to kids while they did their homework and got instruction from a teacher. And my job is... ? So hopefully it'll go better next week- I don't know. But it was kind of... lame this week. So the BYU bookstore's 100 birthday is this week sometime and so all week they're having birthday activities. Yesterday it was free popcorn, and today it was birthday gifts. they hid 100 gifts around campus (byu bookstore gift cards in 5, 10, and 20 dollar amounts, and then ipods) and at 10, only 20 of them were found. So I spent 3 hours searching and couldn't find anything and I was quite disappointed. oh how I wanted a free gift. Tomorrow is free hotdogs and ice cream and chips and soda in brigham square... maybe I'll go take advantage. Even though I have to be in a certain mood to eat a hotdog, at least I don't have to go searching for it.

Anyway, so I'm taking an American Heritage test tomorrow... should be exciting. BUT, that's the only bad thing about tomorrow. The rest is all good. I usually have 5 classes, but two of them are cancelled because the teachers aren't going to be there, and that's wonderful. And I have physical science tomorrow, which is also very exciting. I'll have to keep you updated on all my happenings around here.

I have a picture for you- it's of all of us roommates. One night we had like 3 of us crowded into the bathroom so as a joke we all smooshed in and then saw if we could get us all in the bathtub... I've heard that college students do stupid things for fun, and I suppose we just proved that hypothesis to be correct.

dorm decorating

just posting pictures of our paper chain... counting down the number of days till various holidays, but mostly christmas (well, christmas break. because we all mostly want to know how long until we get to go home). there is a color pattern, so all the specific days of the week have their own color... sundays are yellow. (get it?) oh, and in case you're curious... there are 81 more days. (p.s.- this picture nicely captures the sloped ceiling in our apartment... which has been bothering me all year.)

oh, and about 15 minutes ago, we got this loud knock on our apartment door, so we went, and someone had left us pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, with a ghost, and a note explaining that the halloween phantom had come and we only have 24 hours to visit 2 other apartments. then we post the ghost picture outside our apartment so we can see who's been visited and who hasn't. FUN! oh, and by the way, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies/muffins = AMAZING. mmmmmmmmmm. yummy.

just another update

Greetings all!

So not too much has been happening around here. Last week, I went t
o classes, and luckily only had two classes on friday, which was wonderful (instead of the usual 4). I got to come back to the dorm early and I just did some lazy things. On Thursday night, I got to bed really late, and then had to be up for a class at 10 on Friday. I had planned to get up on Friday and have a leisurely morning- shower, breakfast, (I have become a breakfast eater for the most part, since I got here... most ly because I never have to get up before 9 and eating at 6 never appealed to me) ANYway. So I had planned to get up and have a relaxed morning, study some for a quiz, and then go to class. Well, I was in bed, when I hear my roommate in the hall saying "Is Mollie up?" and then I bolt up in bed, look at the clock, and it says 9:20. GAH! So I had to rush to throw on some clothes and walk the 20 minute walk to class. (And 20 minutes is if I hurry). It was anything but the relaxing and leisurely morning I had planned. As a matter of fact, it was very stressful and made the rest of the day kind of crazy. I went to American Heritage and took the quiz and did less than good on it, but took comfort in the fact that you can take the quiz as many times as you need to online, as long as you get a passing grade at some point.

So after my classes I came home and took a shower and then was lazy for a while. Then I called maintenance and requested a bed fixer to come to my rescue. When I moved in at the end of August, the front legs of my bed were broken... the only thing keeping them in a 90 degree angle to the floor was the wall... if I pulled the bed away from the wall, and pushed on the bed, the front legs collapsed underneath and the front end would fall down. Essentially, the bed frame was just resting on top of legs that were supposed to be attached but weren't. It was kind of disconcerting. My dad told me to call maintenance, which I obediently did, but they came while I was at class and didn't fix it.

So I finally got around to calling again. Two boys showed up about 15 minutes later. (What service!) and I led them down the hall to my bedroom where I had prepared for the grand demonstration by pulling the bed about a foot away from the wall. I walked in and said "This is the problem" and pushed the end of the bed, and the front end fell down to the floor. "Well, yeah, I guess that's a problem" said one of the boys. (Now the idea of boys in our room is kind of weird because boys are NOT allowed in our rooms in any circumstance at any other time... they're allowed in our kitchen/living area, but never in our bedrooms or bathroom... so it was weird to be standing in my bedroom with two stranger boys.) Well anyway, they took my bed away and brought me a new one and that was that. Well, there's more to it, but I won't post it. Hahaha. (o;

Then we went to the BYU women's volleyball game, which was really great and really bad all at once. Besides the fact that BYU lost. But we did get some pictures, including one of us with the President of BYU... kind of exciting... moreso for us than for him probably. Then on Saturday, I went to Footloose at the local theatre with my sisters, mom, and grandma. It was good. Megan and I laughed pretty much the whole time at various different occurrences. Then we went to dinner with the family, and then we went to my grandma's and awaited the return of my mom from the airport because she had gone to pick up my dad. After Dad arrived, Megan had some BYU-Idaho boys (one was the one that drove her down here) pick us up and we went to the house of one of them and watched a movie. ... yeah. Then megan and I got dropped off at my dorm and she spent the night in my room with me because my roommate was out of town. (o:

Then, on Sunday, we got up and went to a picnic in the canyons in the mountains with all the family members that are out here. It was a really pretty day and the leaves were fairly colorful (though not like CT) so I took a ton of pictures. (I have posted some). Then I did some homework and megan left, and my parents left. I forgot to mention my dad came from CT bearing gifts! I had requested some forgotten items that he brought for me, namely a prom dress (to wear to homecoming and/or the freshmen ball... assuming I get a date), my psychology and physics notebooks from high school (which I am incredibly grateful to have), my red granite heart bookends (which have livened up my shelf a bit), and some other odds and ends. I was excited.

Anyway. so then last night I was really hating the idea of doing my homework, and we were all talking about our homes and how far away christmas was, so I decided to make a paper chain. We now have a paper-chain garland hanging in our kitchen... commemorating the 81 days left until christmas break. It makes the kitchen more cheery and it gives us some fun in our homesickness. I was going to make a chain of 12 for the number of weeks, but it is much more satisfying to rip off a link every day.

Anyway. So that's about the extent of the fun that's been happening here. I have to take a physical science test tomorrow. I have been studying for 3 hours and I studying the book, my notes, and my high school notes, so I'm hoping I do ok. I have never studied that much for a test before in my life... and it wasn't because I didn'
t know the stuff, it was just because I wanted to reread the 9 chapters to make sure I didn't miss anything.

So I'll keep you posted on that.

Have a lovely week.

Until again,
mollie
