well hello everyone!
so today is officially my last day of thanksgiving break, and a month before christmas!!! oh christmas. how excited i am. but let's not get ahead of myself. I shall speak first about thanksgiving, which was, after all, 2 days ago.
so... on tuesday, I had friday classes. because it's the last day before break, they made it a friday- so I had psych, physical science, and english. it was kind of an exhausting day, even though nothing much was happening. on monday I had two papers due- I'm not sure how well I did on either of them. Probably not my best work, but should be good enoug
h to get me a B+/A- ish. So that'll be ok. Then on Tuesday we had this LAME 10-12 page group english research paper due. How, exactly, do you write a group research paper? Well, if that question has you scratching your head a little bit, just think of how we felt on monday night. So anyway, our group met at the library at 8 and stayed until midnight and wrote a paper. Then one of the girls in the group who had no classes on tuesday took it home to finish things up and make sure it all went together. It was kind of bad, because by the time we turned it in, we were like "GRR We don't care what we get on it! It's turned in, and that's all that matters." Oh well. We'll see how it went soon enough I suppose. Then, on my way back from english, I walked with a girl in my english group who also lives in heritage halls, and I was telling her a story about my latest trip to the testing center (which I will have to post here in a separate entry coming soon...) and these three guys stopped us and asked if they could film us answering church trivia questions for a DVD game-show thing they're making. So... we did. We answered 3 church history questions and got ourselves filmed while doing it, and they suggested that we "be animated" so when we got one right we jumped up and down and all. It was rather... embarrassing. But maybe you'll see me in a couple years when they get that game out in circulation. HAH.Anyway. So I walked home and then realized that I had misplaced my scriptures somewhere on campus on monday. OH NO! So, I called the lost and found office, but they said they didn't have them. So now I'm all distraught- because I have no idea where they are- they must be getting lonely, and the nights are cold here!!! I hope they're doing alright wherever they are. And hopefully some good samaritan will turn them in soon. (It's almost amusing that I quote a bible story to talk about losing my... bible [and book of mormon, etc].) But anyway. I'm hoping I'll get an email on monday telling me they have them safe and sound; things have been pretty shut-down around here for the thanksgiving break.

Anyway. moving on. So that was tuesday. Then megan and her roommate came on tuesday night. I can't remember if we did anything exciting, so I'm guessing we didn't. Then on Wednesday, we went and ate lunch at the creamery and then we went bowling. I love bowling. I just might stink at it, but I love bowling. I bowled two strikes and a spare though, so all was not lost. Then we... went shopping a little bit and then came back to the apartment. Amy and Ashley left for thanksgiving that day, and then there were three: me, megan, and her roommate kimberly.
We made pies (I made pecan, megan made apple crumb) that night, and made the appetizer (which is orange and grapefruit mixed together with a bunch of sugar- as seen in the punch bowl in the picture of the feast) and then on Thursday we got up at 9 and got picked up by erin to go help her make dinner. I made the peas, corn, and helped with the glazed carrots. I was also supposed to make the sweet potatoes, but there was a war that got in our way. Me and the microwave against the sweet potatoes. Those babies would not cook. I'm telling you- I had one in the microwave (because they'd been in the oven for a while and nothing was happening) for 12 minutes and it was still rock hard. We finally ended up mashing up what we could and throwing the rest away. We did end up having more than enough sweet potatoes- though, I'm not sure if part of the problem was that we were cooking yams. Are yams and
sweet potatoes the same thing? I never understood that differentiation. But anyway. Erin bought "Jumbo Yams" at the store because they were on sale. (We took a picture of Erin with the largest of these discount vegetables) Perhaps they were on sale because they were made of rock and no amount of microwaving could soften them, thereby making them completely useless and somewhat detrimental to the making of thanksgiving dinner. Perhaps.( wow this entry is really long and I haven't even talked about dinner yet...although I have included a picture of our feast)
So anyway. we sat down for our thanksgiving feast at about 2:30 pm. It was lovely. I ate until I couldn't eat anymore, and then I ate pie. And then we were all sitting around playing with will when I notice he needs a diaper change. ("NOOOO!") I tried to stealthily hand him off to Megan, but she was onto me and wouldn't allow it. So I took him upstairs to change him. While I was mid-diaper-change, he started screaming and squirming out from under me. After fastening a diaper around his ankles, I tried again and had to hold him down to keep him from going anywhere. He was still unhappy about the whole project. So, I had to find some clothes to put him in, since he had wet his others. So I'm holding will with one hand and searching through the drawers of the changing table with the other. I finally find a onesie and grab it from the bottom drawer and pull it over his head and then begin to button up the bottom. It is at this
point that I realize it is rather uncharacteristically difficult to snap the snaps on the bottom. Not willing to fight with Will any longer, I scoop him up and bring him downstairs and put him down on the floor to play. "Umm, erin, this was all I could find to put him in." Erin looks over and then bursts out laughing. And pretty soon after that she got into that silent laughing where something's so hilarious you can't even make a noise and your eyes start to tear. After she calmed down, she explained to me that apparently the shorts and 3/4 length sleeves will was sporting (which I thought were just part of some new cute baby-wear enterprise) were actually the result of stuffing him into a onesie marked with the size "3-6 mo." William is 17 months old. He would stand up to walk across the room, and his outfit wouldn't allow him to stand up straight all the way because it was so tight and it would propel him forward, and he'd end up falling over again. We laughed until we cried. All of us. And then Will ate pie and had to be changed again and that was the end of my embarrassment and our fun. (I was able to capture him on film though- maybe you can laugh too.)Anyway. I packed up left-overs to bring home but haven't yet broken them out-- maybe because with Megan and her roommate here, I feel inclined to eat more at random intervals during the day, causing me to never be hungry enough for a second round of thanksgiving dinner.
So we were at Erin's until 10 on thanksgiving and then bryce brought us home. Then on Friday we got up and went to the bookstore and I got pictures developed ( a whole ton of pictures ) because my camera card (which holds 420 pictures) said it only had 16 left to take. Yup. So then we met Erin because she was working and also met my cousin because she was visiting, and went back to Erin's house. We then went on a trip to Cabela's for an unknown reason and then headed up to salt lake city for a meal at "the pie". ("The Pie" is a pizza restaurant that is, apparently, incredibly popular on a friday night, at which they serve gigantic pizzas with about 1" of toppings. We got a 23" pizza to share) Then we went and rode the Trax because Bryce explained: "My boy is going to ride a train tonight, gosh dangit!" So we went and rode as far as we could for free and then rode back the other direction. Then drove home.

Today I got up around 11:30 (oh vacation-- when you can sleep as long as you want and no one can yell at you...) and then got up and showered and sat down to watch the much anticipated BYU vs. University of Utah football game. In case you didn't see it, I'm going to give you a play-by-play. We got two touchdowns right off the bat, so the score was 14-0 and it was looking like it was going to be an easy one for BYU. I screamed at those touch-downs and megan was in the kitchen and said "SINCE WHEN DID YOU BECOME A FOOTBALL FAN!?!?" ... umm... since I became a freshman at byu and got tickets to all the home games? So anyway. We continued to watch. So then Utah got some touchdowns so we were behind by 3 at the half. ("BEHIND!!! GAH!") In the fourth quarter, BYU scored a touchdown and therefore had the lead with 10 minutes left to go. ("Alright. All we have to do is keep them from scoring and we'll win!!!") Then, Utah got a touchdown, giving them the lead with 4 minutes left on the clock. ("Oh NO! We're gonna lose!!!!") So then BYU gets the ball all the way down the field, so they're at the 17 yd line or something, on the third down, with 10 seconds left in the game. And BYU throws, and the guy in the end zone just misses it. 4th down. THREE SECONDS left on the clock. (At this point, I was standing in front of the TV... megan told me to sit down...) seriously. THREE SECONDS. 4th down. THIS WAS IT!!! So John Beck (mr. quarterback) gets the ball, and the three seconds runs out as he's looking for someone to throw to... and he's looking, and he's looking, and he runs one direction, and it looks like he's gonna get tackled by Utah, and then all of a sudden, he chucks it off to the opposite side. And there, in the end zone, with no one around him, is a BYU guy, who slides on his knees into the catch. AND BYU WINS THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy cow it was exciting. I was screaming and jumping around and Megan was too, she says, "I don't even like football, and I don't even care about this game, but watching you watch it got me all nervous and now I'm cheering!!" Oh boy. It was an incredible game. Of course, after that touchdown, John Beck started crying and all the seniors ran out and jumped on top of him, and it was great. I'm telling you, that was one intense game. Seriously, I don't really know when I turned into a football fan, but it happened. But I still don't really like to watch professional teams on tv-- but watching BYU play is pretty exciting. So horrah for BYU!
Anyway. So then we went to the bookstore again to pick up my pictures and to buy some stuff and then we came home and hung around for a while. That's been the extent of my thanksgiving break- I know- pretty exciting.
I have church in the morning and then all of my roommates are coming home at various times throughout the day and megan and her roommate are leaving at some point, and then it will be back to the old routine. But... only four more weeks of the old routine, and then I'm going HOME!!!!
Anyway. The point of this EXTRA LONG entry is that my thanksgiving break was satisfying.
I have posted pictures so maybe you can feel a little bit like you were there with us, enjoying all the antics.
Someday I shall learn to use less words to say what I want to say.
